Not to hijack this thread. I want to do this on my 500’s wheels. I was thinking about actually trying to vacuum bag the wheels with ppf like we use to do boat molds. Heat and vacuum.

Video I made on the paint protection process on the car.

That technique works well with vinyl wrap. PPF is a much thicker and less pliable. If you heat it up enough with a steamer, you might be able to pull it off. You still have to deal with the water/alcohol/soap between the PPF and the object/wheel. Also you have to apply pressure with a squeegee immediately after, so there's a lot going on. But, yea, that would be nice.

They make a clear vinyl wrap. Not as protective as PPF. You'd could vacuum that. Better than nothing.

edit: This post is after midnight...so you know...

I’m not sure that’s the best method. We use vacuum bagging In carbon production, but the paint protection material isn’t designed to work that way.

I was just curious if there was a method that could be developed for wheels with the vacuum bagging technique. It sure worked well for molds and glass work we did. If you could get a thinner material it would work really well.

For those at home keeping score, as of Wednesday 20 cars were left for the body shop to prepare for production. Chassis N3770 was on the line and I was told there was likely a few hundred on the line behind this. I'll have more info in the coming weeks and will hopefully be able to see what the last chassis number is. I would say based on that info, 4000 or very close to it will be produced for the final production year 2022.

Last one rolls off Monday. Will try to get the chassis number.
Monday? I thought they were building to near end of November before the changeover to '23?

Nope. That was originally communicated then 3 weeks into November and now it's Monday. My guess is when the build rate increased it shortened that forecast significantly.

That would make since. I haven't heard of anyone being scheduled in November. Thanks for the pics. We all would love to know the final count.
