You gotta really want it. I'd like to leave my current job but the pay still outweighs my current level of unhappiness. And after 12 years and being over 40, it's rather terrifying to think about a transition. But I have a good friend who used to work here quit a few years ago and is now running his own company driving freight wherever he feels like. We go on bicycle rides every weekend and he's extremely happy. I'm jealous but also just not ready to take the leap yet.

I have owned a 2010 and 2017 WRX and now a 2020 STI, I also have a 2017 Mustang GT as well. I've loved them all, but the Subarus are not meant for straight line, although they are fairly quick , especially with the right modifications. I prefer to daily the STI, the seating position I find more comfortable, the handling is great, and still has more than enough power.

With that said, for straight line and "street presence" it's Mustang all the way. I get a lot more compliments and people starting for sure.

I owned a 2017 WRX (same power as a 2021), sold it and now own a 2015 GT Premium. Everything is better with the Mustang except the handling. The WRX with the AWD is a blast to drive. Other than that, the Mustang wins. No rev hang, no turbo lag, better interior, better shifter and it‘s a V 8. Two totally different cars however and just one persons opinion.

I realize there are a lot of differently set up Mustangs, but as far as I can tell Mustangs turn corners much better than WRXs. Every time I've been on track with WRXs in a Mustang, they always hold me up.

I expect that WRXs are good for quick launches on snowy days - kind of like my 2003 Explorer with the V6 engine. Other than low traction situations, they are just another underpowered econobox.

Again they are designed for rallying, you're still comparing apple and oranges. The AWD system isn't really eco and you lose like 20% power to the transmission all for the soul purpose of increased traction. It's horses for courses.

It's easier to dial in a 54/46 RWD car for track day cornering levels than it is a 60/40 AWD car that's inherently going to be more understeerish. Never mind the power to weight difference - can't really assume anything here other than stockish for either car. If anything, AWD is better at getting a car off the corners than getting the car into and through them.

I doubt I'll ever take our '19 WRX out on the track for anything other than a few lunchtime parade laps. But it's more than competent in the corners than some here are giving it credit for - I'm pretty sure it's been tested in the upper 0.8x lateral g range.

Well, 268 HP is kind of underpowered relative to 460. But it doesn't cost BMW M3 money either.

My mistake - C/D tested the latest generation WRX at 0.95 lat-g with moderate understeer (a bit more than I prefer, FWIW).

Not too shabby for a car that can pass for a family sedan if your family numbers 4 or fewer.

It works well for us (70+), and there's zero chance of either of us ever becoming a stereotypical WRX/STi enthusiast with odd preferences and attitudes.
