I still want a S2000! What happened to all the great sports cars from Japan :(
I ask myself that everyday. I too want an S2000. Unfortunately, owning one in Miami is not an ideal thing :/

Love the sound of the Subie boxer 4. Coworker has one with an aftermarket exhaust and it sounds bitchin at track days. Sorta like a WWII fighter plane flying by. I do wish the engine was a bit more modern. Definitely found lots of negative stories when I was researching getting one.

Don't even get me started on Honda. They pretty much peaked with the S2000 and it's been all downhill from there. Hopefully the new NSX will help them get their mojo back, but unfortunately it is paving the way for hybrid sports cars, and I'm not sure I could ever look at one without thinking how much better it would be if you just eliminated the weight of the motor and batteries.

Anyhow, the new STI seems to be a great car, but I prefer the GT.

Couldn't agree more. I saw the same things when I was looking the new sti. Also a buddy of mine bought one first, he'd never let me live it down buying the same thing...again lol! I was a bit disappointed with the NSX. It seemed to have lost its roots. It was a budget and simple designed super car in its prime and now its just a glorified R8. Don't get me wrong I think its beautiful just doesn't have the same spirit it had. I actually was really debating getting an s2000 before the GT, but they just don't make enough power and I live where the roads are flat and straight. I like cars that lead not follow the trends. That's why I love the new GT350 so much. They have made it more modern in so many ways while maintaining its mustang heritage. Most importantly (to me) they've kept the ol' fashioned H pattern. I like the z28 as well but it is horrendously priced for a stripped down Camaro with a big ass v8 and a few other goodies thrown in. It's cool but for that price i'd get a vette. I am a genuine car nut, I could rant all day and night with this stuff.

I'd buy a C6Z before I'd waste money on the Z28. Lighter, looks better and is easier to make fast. Stupid fast.

I think focusing on bringing the weight of the cars down while incorporating those standards would be best. FWD sportier cars have suffered the worst imo. Look at Honda for example. The si, gsr, type r's of the 90's were great even being fwd because they were lightweight and required very little torque to happily sprint about and maneuver through corners.
I think you're right about lower weight being a big deal.

I have never thought much of front wheel drive cars being used to drive quickly. I'm not a great driver or anything, but my experience is rear wheel drive is so much better there really is no comparison. Miata and S2000 are desirable to me, though.

I owned a Honda Accord once, and I spent way too much time fixing that hunk of junk. It was not easy to work on either. I donated it - good riddance. I have no idea how they got a reputation for building good quality cars.

Drive mode wont make a difference in that situation. With the exception of snow mode, normal vs track vs sport does not change power level.

100% throttle is 100% throttle. It would be different if the driver is modulating throttle to negotiate a track, then you would see a difference.
THANK YOU! I am tired of people thinking these drive modes are similar to Dom Toretto hitting his "NOS" switch.

front wheel drive is not great for driving fast. you have the front wheels doing everything. putting power to the road, steering, braking, traction issues...RWD is better, AWD is best in my opinion.

Nothing but great things to say about my 06 STI. Modded, Autocrosser, Track day, occasional lakebed rallycrosser and DD. Like Supa mentioned, it's all about knowing how to do em right when modding and maintaining em. Almost 10 yrs and 110 k later and no issues and it's driven hard all the time. Car is smiles everytime I drive. Common sense of not using 5w20 and avoiding 8k oil changes, goes a long way with bearings. Not to mention money on quality tunes by quality tuners, especially with crappy gas, for the pistons. Both reasons in addition to dipshit drivers for alot of 2.5 failures....

Only reason, I'm in the Mustang for now.... Subaru refuses to build a BRZ that's RWD and given the STI treatment. 300hp+turbo, stout running gear, Brembos, BBS with fat sticky rubber. The favor of no silly wings and no tack on kid looks fast crap would be a plus also. A platform with lots of options to build on and make perfect.

Base GT, PP with Recarros is the closest I was looking for out there, although a much bigger package. From what I've seen here, there's more than a few here for the same reason, since IRS made it to the plate this gen.

I was close to getting an STi. I love that boxer motor rumble. That and the exhaust from the EVO are the only two import exhausts i like. But i had to be in a Mustang again.

Give the STI a more powerful/stout engine and I'd consider it.

I like to go fast and the acceleration differences between both are significant, as are the performance ceilings (600rwhp with the stang).

Both look good and have nice interiors so that doesn't swing me either way. I keep waiting for the STI to get a good bump and keep getting disappointed year after year when nothing comes.
