The current Goodyear Supercar 3 didn’t exist when the SS 1LE first came out so the were on the Eagle F1 (Supercar version) tires.

Are you confusing the difference in compound and tread pattern between tires like the Cup2s and PSS/PS4S or regular Supercar 3/Supercar 3R? Because yes there is a large difference with plenty of data to back it up.

Michelin, Goodyear etc have standard high performance summer/rain tires (Supercar 3, PSS/PS4S) and barely DOT legal R compound streetable track tires such as the Cup 2s and Supercar 3R.
I'm not sure where you got your info, but you're wrong. The 2016 SS 1LE came with the supercar 3 tires. Every review of the vehicle mentions this

https://www.caranddriver.com/featur...-camaro-ss-1le-at-lightning-lap-2016-feature/

"Tires: Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3"

Perhaps you have been looking at early press release info where they weren't using the supercar 3 verbage?

Regardless, I can assure you all 2016's were using the 3's.

And no, there is no data between the supercar 3's and the cup 2's...except those that have swapped. Again, the supercar 3's are by most accounts in between the PS4S and Cup2.

Edit:

And to add more fuel to the fire, there are several compound differences between Cup 2 tires. The compound on the base GT350 is not the same as the GT350R, which isn't the same as Cup 2's for other vehicles.

Check out #47 and #48:
https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a23319884/lightning-lap-times-historical-data/

How long was that thread when it happened? :)
This reminds me how much I hate lightning lap times.

Different drivers (magazine editors) with different skill levels drive these cars on different days around tracks and compare times. The data is so completely skewed.

Funny thing is, Motortrend says the same thing...

"Many Motor Trend editors are above-average drivers and can certainly approach a car's limit on a track in relative safety, but we don't imperil ourselves or the often-pricey hardware to find or even exceed limits. As a result, we never claim our laps as those of record, unlike some other enthusiast publications. (We've seen 4-second lap time deltas between pro drivers and those auto scribes in the same car on Virginia International Raceway, for instance.)"

Dear diary. Its now day 361, the GT500 is still the best bang for buck 2020 car available.
The GM kids are still crying and want to change the rules after every score.
Ill report back this evening

That's also why track days are so fun. Love running down hypercars in my budget-mobile.

I've read many different things on forums and articles regarding tires on the early SS 1LE. I was cross shopping it with the GT350 when I decided to go back to US made cars. I can't find info so I'll concede you are correct on it. If indeed that is the tire on the BDC test it is very comparable to the PSS/PS4S in quality. I've been on the previous Eagle F1s driving friends cars and i thought they were terrible. They got rid of them the first chance they got.

But, we still differ on the size of the gap between the regular Supercar 3 to a Cup 2 and Supercar 3R. Reviews say neither are up to the PSS/PS4S/Cup 2 yet, but are very good for their first gen. I've driven mostly on the Michelin trios and some Contis. I haven't gotten to drive my ZLE in anger yet on a track so I don't know how the Supercar 3Rs compare. But, again there is plenty of data on many different cars when driven on a regular summer/rain tire and a streetable/track tire. From my much more experienced track friends in person and track sunforums it seems 1 to 3 seconds is the norm for improvement all things being equal....driver, track, car etc. There were very heated discussions here as to why the GT350Rs were better than the GT350s in both performance time and feel. Obviously the Rs CF/Cup 2 wheel combo over the stock boat anchor/PSS regular 350 setup was by far the biggest difference with suspension hardware being a distant second.

At least this round was much more civil, have a good one.:beer:

Again, keep in mind...Cup2 compound varies per vehicle. The cup 2 tires on the GT350 are not the same compound as on the GT350R and are not the same compound you can buy for your ZL1.

1-3 seconds sounds like a reasonable expectation on some cars on some tracks.

In regards to the Supercar 3R tires...they have been said to be very...very sticky. I've "heard" they take less time to warmup than cup2's, and have also heard of mixed results when directly compared.

As for civility, I have no problem keeping it real as long as folks aren't acting like a pure troll. I enjoy the rhetoric. These forums would be boring without it.

I wonder if we took a vote to close this thread? The mods would shut it down. I’m a yes if they’ll kill it.:)
