Not being a dick here guys, but have you seen the C8 pics, stats, and interior? Stitched leather dash, insane looking seats, driver cockpit arrangement, and the insanely low center of gravity due to how low the engine sits.

No way in hell would I buy a GT500 at the same price, people at Ford are likely meeting today to discuss the market ramification of the C8 release to the GT 500 lol

Its just going to be embarrassing if the vette is faster in the 1/4 mile with 495hp and the mustang is making 760...man it sucks that this car is making me reconsider and I never even thought I would! Watch ford come back and reduce the price of the gt500 by 10-15k somehow lol

The C8 is about the same price as the GT350. The GT350 has cup2 tires and is faster than the C7 Z51. The C8 Z51 is probably a $70-80K car.
Yeah, it looks like vs. the C7 - just for some price reference - the Z51 is about a $5K add, you add some options like better seats, mag suspension, get it close to $70K, and if you opt for the better interiors, it adds $5k-10K, plus special paint options and whatnot, it's pretty easy to spec out a $75K Stingray - or a $80-85K Grand Sport if you option it with the Z07 carbon package.

I imagine most people on the C8 with go 2LT trim (+$5-6K) and a decent number will get the Z51 package, so there will be quite a few $70K+ cars on the road.

It was 3,366lbs dry. That's a good 250-300lbs lighter than when it's full of fuel, oil, and water. It'll be over 3,600lbs.

The more expensive Z51 is the car that goes 0-60 in less than 3 seconds. The non Z51 likely will be at or just over 3 seconds. Still faster than a GT500 but up top the 500 should be faster. The Z51 is claimed to have 400lbs of downforce, which isn't too far off the GT500 track car, but it does not have cup2 tires.

Z51 is a $4,000 - 4,495 option to C7 cars, depending on which trim level you are adding it to. So it is very likely that a 1LT Stingray Z51 can be had for $65k.

***EDIT*** Just for the sake of clarity, when I first posted this I was looking at pricing on a GM Employee Discount site. The retail price for Z51 in a C7 is $5,000

I've been wanting the new GT500 but not anymore. C8 looks like its in my future. Ford needs to dial down the price and dealer ADMs if i'm going to consider a mustang over this. C8 looks pretty special versus the GT500 with a Fusion dial shifter.... Then again C8s will be everywhere just like the C7... First world problems.

Hmm, so I was re-reading my own post ... I guess the C8 isn't going to have (or is it?) two model variants with the same power, i.e., the C7 Stingray vs. the C7 GS, same V8/HP/TQ, the GS has the sexier fenders, bigger wheel/tire/brake options.

It's a $5K option on all models, which does not include the $1,795 magneride option or the $1K C7 spoiler (the C8 spoiler is probably similar if not more, and the high spoiler easily more). I wouldn't be surprised if the Z51 option increased in price over the C7 option. At a minimum you're looking at $8K+ for a true "Z51", even a low optioned car. -> $70K car.

Hard to say at this point. According to a certain forecasting source, upcoming models will be equipped with a 5.5L DOHC making 600+ hp. Whether Grand Sport gets that engine or stays with the 6.2L is not clear at this time. FWIW, the same forecasting source projected 505 hp for the LT2 and an 8DCT. LT2 came in at 495. I’d say that’s fairly accurate. Same source also projects a boosted version of the 5.5 as well as some electrification.

I was possibly considering a '20 GT500 in a few years. Not really anymore after last night's reveal, the 2020 Corvette is amazing. The looks, styling, interior, and mid-engine (puts the power down much better), it's the full package. The base model will likely do 0-60 in very low 3s (Z51 package required to get "under" 3.0 seconds, which means 2.99 seconds). The extra power of the GT500 will probably begin to catch the Z51 Corvette after about 50 mph, but by then the Corvette will be ahead due to the traction advantage. I would guess the GT500 will be slightly faster in the 1/4 (10.8ish vs 10.9ish), with the GT500 trapping 6-7 more mph and pulling away hard at higher speeds. The Corvette's traction is a huge advantage at lower speeds, but the GT500 has gobs more power and will pull much harder at speeds where traction isn't an issue.

Now, imagine how fast the Z06 will be!!? And probably the same price as the track pack GT500. No contest there in any regard. The eventual Z06 and then ZR1 will be 0-60 in sub 2.6 seconds cars.

My only gripe about the new Corvette is it is still a cam in block push rod engine with a 6,500 rpm redline. I wish they went DOHC, 5.5 liters +/-, for 525 hp and 460 ft-lbs torque with a higher redline (7,500 rpm). That would have made it a bit more exotic, but probably higher cost due to the development of a new Chevy V8.

Sitting right next to each other (new Corvette, GT500), no one will even notice the GT500.

You’re right, it’s $5k across the board. I would not expect it to increase much if at all, though because some of the content of Z51 for C7 is now standard content on C8. Dry sump is first thing that comes to mind. $8k is very unlikely. $5,500....$6,000....maybe. More than that, I doubt it.

Lol. There will be plenty of Corvettes sitting next to each other on dealer lots with 15% off MRSP signs. I'm sure it will be a performer, but deserved or not Corvette will always have the connotation of a car for people who need to go the pharmacy to pick up their little blue pill Rx.

Dont need race seats, so Z51 4000 plus 59600 starting price puts the C8 at 64000, so lets say 65000
What a deal and it looks SICK

The C8 does not look like a Camaro at all to me, no where on those lines does it look camaro like...

For 40 a GT is still a bad bitch but 75 for a GT500, nope....I'll take the C8 all day long, too bad I cant afford one :)

I'm not even sure who the "no ones" are, and why anyone would GAF :D

Seriously, I notice a '68 Charger as much as I notice a McLaren 720s, I think there are car guys who have a wide appreciation for all vehicles, and some flavor-of-the-week people who will ogle over a C8, until the market is saturated (or they're distracted by something on YouTube ...)
