2019 Oil Usage

Just curious. Supposedly the newer engines have fixed the oil consumption issues experienced by some with earlier models. Presumably there are now some 2019s out there that have 5000-7000 miles on them after the first oil change and before it is necessary to do the second. Are all of them showing zero oil usage in that amount of mileage? Is anyone with a 2019 consuming a quart between 1000-3000 miles? Does the 2019 manual still state that consumption up to one quart per 500 miles is acceptable to Ford?

2019 new motor in my 2018. Uses perhaps 1 quart per 3500 miles or so. Has 12K miles on it now.

I've had some usage, very minimal IMO and the car is mostly used to drive to the track and track it... approx 8 k miles, and oil changed at 829 miles and 5259 miles. Added about 1.5 qts between those oil changes, and currently have 7632 miles on it and i haven't had to add any since 5259, but it is creeping slowly down the stick. Assuming nothing changes I'm pretty happy with it considering how the car is used.

1300 miles on my 2019. Changed the oil "just because" at 1000 miles. Looked practically the same as if I poured a new quart of oil in. Since then...no issues or loss.

2019, currently 1133mi, two FP catch cans installed at 100mi, first oil change at 1087mi:

Zero consumption so far, oil level remains consistent at all times. A couple ounces in the passenger can. Driver can bone dry. Got about 9.25 quarts out of it on the oil change. Put 9 quarts back in and level read above the bottom hole. Put another quart in, and it's a fair bit above the top hole, even when warm. It was still very slightly trickling when I sealed it back up to refill, but it was going so slow I didn't figure it would amount to more than a couple ounces. I figure I need to drain 3/4 quart back out. Next time I'll make sure it's hot before draining and let it sit until the very last drop.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like a few still consume oil but not down as low as some of us in the 1500 mile range (currently at 24,000 miles, stable consumption no matter how it's driven, but started off at only a quart per 3300 miles). Most responders don't have enough miles yet to really tell. Will be interesting to see if this changes with more miles or if something like the rumored/speculated/explanatory treatment of the cylinders really was a problem or whatever else Ford supposedly changed in the newer engines and what implications that might have as warranties run out and some of us might want to replace on our own in this great car. If any one does consume a quart per 1500-2000 miles or so with the newer engine please post. If that level occurs with these newer engines then this variation is just the norm for an HP engine and not sure what was supposedly fixed. Wish Ford would be transparent.

I only have 400 miles on my '19 GT350R - probably not enough to know yet... but the one thing I have noticed is that there is no buildup on the exhuast tips... my '17's were black after even short trips

That's an interesting observation you made which I forgot to mention. My exhaust tips are still silver looking, as well. I even have taken to shining them after a wash and they look like chrome.

If you're expecting an engine of this caliber to not burn a single drop of oil, you're in the wrong game. Yes 1 quart every 1000 miles is pretty excessive. But being down maybe .5 - 1 quart say every 5000 mile oil change is quite normal, even borderline acceptable.

FWIW, my '16 engine burns that .5 quart every oil change, done around 4000 miles. Done early due to tracking and and autocross.

As someone who used to own numerous RX-7's I am used to high revving engines burning some oil. I would check oil levels every 2 weeks and even more if I did any hard driving. I owned 3 RX-7's and none of them ever had a single engine issue and I believe most people suffered engine issues with the rotaries because they simply did not check oil levels enough and add oil when needed.

I quite agree with you and don't believe I stated anywhere that I expected no oil usage. I don't think anyone would be unhappy at one quart per 5000 mile oil change. So if that is what the new engines are getting, it would be nice to know that. That would then beg the question of what was different on the previous engines and what Ford did to correct it. Some have suggested from pre-19 threads that one quart per 1000 mile was acceptable for an engine of this caliber yet if Ford changed something and that is no longer happening then maybe Ford didn't think it was acceptable. Aren't you curious to know if that correction occurred and what that change was?
