While an additional cost, it might be worthwhile to download the procedure and print (self, FedEx or UPS) for the tech. Or point out some procedure-specific tasks to them.

I don't have a printer. FedEx and UPS doesn't care if it's three pages or 300. You can upload the job and pick it up while out on errands.

The site allows unlimited access, 3 days for $30.00. You can download as much as you can stand, in 72 hours. The files are the ones Ford techs use at the dealer. They will be VIN-specific, tailored to your model/options.

As to the 10R80, attached is a file I recently found, displaying the dipsticks and how to read them.

Thank-you, that is great information!

Who knew Ford would put a painted gear in a sealed lube bathed enclosure ...make sense.

I just like changing out all fluids and tires earlier than most just to keep everything in optimal condition at low cost. in 2026 will flush rad install new Mishimoto hoses everywhere install allot trans pan with drain.
Yes - I've done that too - changed early initially and it was a second change where the fluid (BG) looked exactly like the one I was pouring in. Overall, there is nothing wrong in doing it.

I find working on a car a mental rest so even if something has no real mechanical purpose, it is still beneficial.

There is nothing wrong with changing those fluids. It's cheap insurance and the gear oil ABSOLUTELY breaks down. Even if it doesn't break down from heat, moisture will break it down over time. On my Mustangs I always change the transmission and gear oil every 60k unless I was REALLY hard on the car with a ton of hard launches with really sticky tires and then I will change it every 30k. I also change the gear oil on a new car after 500-1500 miles. If you have a magnetic drain plug you will know why because it will be full of metal paste from the gear set breaking in.

Changed my diff at 35K miles it was black. It's mainly the additive package integrity in all lubes which breaks down with shear and temp that motivates lube change and relatively low cost.
Mine was black too at like 20K, it's just the black oxide coating that the gears come with wearing off. I still think it's worth doing.

I cleaned up my plugs and there was actually a lot more crap on them than I expected as the magnet is recessed, this is 2.5k of reasonably enthusiastic road miles :

The above was following a diff cover replacement and full fluid change.

The plugs shown came out of the removed cover (Ford fitted new plugs with the new cover).

If it's little more or less in the dfif, it is not really going to change anything. Btw - there is absolutely no reason to change diff fluid probably like ever. I've changed mine recently on a car driven much harder than average street driven car and the fluid was _pristine_.

If you really want to do it though and are worried about it, diff is really really easy to change to yourself, much less pain in the ass than transmission.
On a brand new car I always change the diff fluid at less than 5,000 miles (and then at 25,000 and 100,000). My 2017 GT had heaps of metal on the magnetic diff plugs. Most wear (break in) on a diff occurs when it's new.

I'd call the shop and question them if they know the proper fill procedure/levels for the 10R80. It depends on the "dip stick" as to where it should be filled. One is a crosshatch with A & B boxes, the other is a number scheme with dots in between each number. I have a '21, and my dipstick is the number style. The only way to ensure they did the job correctly is to either be present while they conduct the work or check the level yourself after it's been completed. As others stated, the differential fluid change is easy and takes maybe 20 minutes to accomplish in the driveway/garage on jack stands.
