So I am taking my new to me 2019 GT PP1/A10 in for transmission and rear differential fluid changes. Car has 28,000 miles on it. I plan on using Redline 75W-90 and stock fluid in trans. Sound ok, I do not track it currently, but do drive it hard on occasion.

I am taking it to my local transmission shop that I have used many times for fluid changes. My concern is them getting the fill levels correct. I assume they know the manufacturers specs, but I really have no way of knowing if it is correct or not. I believe the diff is 9mm below the fill hole and assume the dipstick in the trans is marked. Is this correct? Anyone have a bad experience having someone change these fluids?

I did my 2020 by it is a 6 speed ... as far as the rear, they won t mess that up. You are correct I think that just slightly below the fill hole is correct. Even up the the top hole would be fine. The auto trans is another story. I have had issues with other cars and shops getting the level right with no dip sticks.

edit, ah, didn t know you have a dip stick.... then should be fine.

If it's little more or less in the dfif, it is not really going to change anything. Btw - there is absolutely no reason to change diff fluid probably like ever. I've changed mine recently on a car driven much harder than average street driven car and the fluid was _pristine_.

If you really want to do it though and are worried about it, diff is really really easy to change to yourself, much less pain in the ass than transmission.

I figure it's cheap insurance, the car is 35K, what's three hundred in fluid changes. Going to have coolant done too. Just can't see 150K on the trans, but maybe the diff.

You can absolutely see 150k on the transmission.

Everybody in the car world talks about their transmission like its made of tissue paper 🤣.......unless youre a Tremec person. ....They generally seems to be happy and cocky lol.

I checked my trans fluid because I read most of them were a quart low. Mine was.

It's not horrible, you have to get the trans up to operating temp (190 I think?), jack it up and pull the little dipstick.

The dipstick is right next to the cat (if you're running stock exhaust), so a cheap set of welding gloves helps. You can pick them up at Harbor Freight for about $7.

It's hot, even with the welding gloves I could feel the heat.

I'd ask them to do this, I don't think it's too much to ask but then again, you don't know if they did without checking it yourself.

rear diff fluid is cheap with such a small amount. it s almost as easy to change it as to check it. I did mine at 5 years 20K miles.... cost a few buck doing it myself.

Changed my diff at 35K miles it was black. It's mainly the additive package integrity in all lubes which breaks down with shear and temp that motivates lube change and relatively low cost.

It was paint off the ring gear, nothing broken down.

I've filled my diff to the hole and tracked my car, and it never puked out the breather.

Your results may vary, but I wouldn't stress if it isn't a track car.

Definitely more concerned about them getting the trans right than the diff.

Since we are on the topic.

Any methods for getting the transmission to tempature quickly?

I monitor transmission tempature all the time. In all my banging around I have yet to see it get to 200, very very rarely gets to 190.

Shops must have a technique. I doubt their out cruising in my car for an hour 😁...... Or maybe they are🤔

Usually if I drive mine around for a bit (takes about 10 miles at least) and do some paddle shifting, I can usually get mine up to temp. You're right, it's definitely not a quick process!

drive it in winter mode. the trans slips the most in that mode. This will cause more heat thus heating up quicker

Who knew Ford would put a painted gear in a sealed lube bathed enclosure ...make sense.

I just like changing out all fluids and tires earlier than most just to keep everything in optimal condition at low cost. in 2026 will flush rad install new Mishimoto hoses everywhere install allot trans pan with drain.
