Maybe... possibly. The two transmissions appear to have a similar type of shift mechanism. Adding a magnet to the shift rod is probably not difficult. Locating the black box in the correct location may be more difficult.
Calimer has probably disassembled a D4 and seen the magnet and location.
may not have to worry about it much longer. I spoke with a Tremec rep yesterday and they are working on a fix for the T56 swap into the 19+ cars that will allow all options to be retained. He couldn’t give specifics but said the company hoped to have it available by end of year or possibly January. Hopefully we see some details soon 🤞

I assume that means they are planning to adding a magnet to the shifter on the T56 as well as a way to mount the sending unit on the outside. That makes sense since they had to work with Ford to add the same sensor to the TR-3160 for the Mach 1. They should now have all the information they need to add it to the T56!

That is really exciting news, and will probably keep me from pulling the trigger on the Calimer Stage 3 MT82. I like the idea of beefing up the stock MT82, but the stronger T56 is very tempting...

I too assume that’s what they’re working on and that is actually what I initially called to ask about doing. After reading hours of info and getting a decent grasp as to what was needed to make the swap work correctly (and realizing the connection it’s actually just magnetic) I called to ask if anyone had tried retrofitting the internal sensor into the T56, guess someone was way ahead of me in that line of thought lol

haven’t heard any updates on it. Ford replaced my transmission and clutch under warranty so I’m just being easy on it until they release some info.

Necroing this thread lol. I've broken two mt82-D4s in my 2020 PP1, 401A car so I'm on the hunt for better options. I've read through the thread and am curious if anyone has thought about putting the magnet for the 6 pin connector inside a T56 on the shift rod like it is on the mt82? Am I wrong in thinking this way? is it possible to take the T56 apart to the point of being able to do this? How big it the magnet that mounts on the shift rod?
What did you break in those two MT82-D4 transmissions?

Has anyone tried rebuilding theirs with stronger internals? I’m going through this right now. I’ve disassembled Mine and all hard parts look brand new, despite several high rpm lockouts and a few grinding shifts from 1-2 and 2-3. Here is a pic of my input shaft bearing looked like when I pulled it with only 6K miles on the tranny. I might add that my input shaft was loose (about 3/32”) and I could shake it left/right and up/down.

I’m hoping that my rebuild and the new clutch will help this tranny perform flawlessly.

What did you break in those two MT82-D4 transmissions?
Dude I just realized I never replied to this question, my bad. Both were broken 3rd gear synchros and I just broke another one. It has to be the stock clutch dragging at high RPM and me possibly gorilla shifting it. This is frustrating to say the least. My first trans lasted 12,000 miles before breaking, now Im on my third broken trans and I’ve got 14,000 miles on the car.

No offense but you must be doing something wrong, or making 800 wheel horsepower to break that many transmissions in 14k miles, lol. I'm not gonna sit here and defend the MT-82, but that's impressive levels of destruction. Maybe you do have an issue with the clutch hydraulics, either air in the system or a defective pressure plate/slave cylinder that isn't allowing proper travel.

Wow! That is crazy. I don’t know what I’d do if I found myself in thst situation. Do you have any pics of your broken synchros? I would like to see where the breaks are.

No I don’t have any pictures, hothead first two transmissions were replaced under warranty. I’m really considering tearing this current one apart myself and rebuilding it. If I do I’ll get you some pictures of the synchros. I’m becoming more and more convinced that it’s a factory clutch problem and possible out of adjustment some how. The original transmission lasted to 12k miles before breaking a synchro on 7800 rpm 2-3 shift. Once the local Ford dealer replaced that transmission it’s been nothing but issues. Something has to be out of spec or adjustment imo.

It’s the most destructive I’ve ever been on anything I’ve owned lol. It’s odd that the original trans lasted 12k before breaking a synchro and the other two haven’t lasted 2k between them. I’m really at a loss. And my car is tune only E85, probably only makes 440-450 to the wheels.
