Honestly, the majority of people that bought the performance pack. Don't track their cars. They buy the performance pack. So they can say they have the performance pack. The real track guys go aftermarket.C'mon track guy!!!
The people that would know what PP2 means, much less actually pay for it, couldn't care less about it's name's "sex appeal". They want actual performance, genuine dynamic abilities.
Yup
The 2015 GT was supposedly as fast as the BOSS 302 (it wasn't). Did Ford care about that? The 2018 GT has more power and supposedly better suspension than a 2015-2017, do they care about that? No. New cars should be better than old cars, it helps convince people to trade up to the latest model. If the pp2 matches the gt350 performance for a lower price with no allocation restrictions, I am curious. Will the existing gt350 owners be happy, pissed, or indifferent?
I don't think it will cannibalize sales at all. I want a GT350. I may very well get one in the future. But two things have to change. I need to make more, or they need to get a little cheaper.A few things:
- That's an entirely different model of car. Ford doesn't really have a car to match up with the Camaro/Corvette dynamic (the GT is in another league from the Corvette entirely) and neither GT350 can hang with the top trim C7 either. The GT350 like it or not is just another trim level of the same car and the sales demo is going to be more similar between the Mustang GT and GT350 than the one between the Camaro and Corvette. Honestly, the GT350 is more of a SS 1LE competitor than anything.
- The C7 Z06 was put around the ring in 7:13.9 by a German magazine known for putting out conservative times whereas Chevy's own claim for the Camaro ZL1 1LE with their own pro driver at the wheel was a 7:16.04 lap. IIRC Chevy tested the C7 Z06 at the ring but wrecked the car and never tried to set an official time again. Watch the YouTube video of both laps, the magazine wasn't pushing the C7 Z06 nearly as hard as Chevy was pushing the ZL1 1LE.
- The C7 ZR1 is coming and I'd bet you any amount of money it's going to put down a sub-7 ring time.
- Ford still has to make a business case to sell two relatively low-volume high performance cars that are trending towards being identical to each other. There's no way a really strong PP Level 2 won't cannibalize sales of the GT350 from the track rat crowd.
This thing has the GT performance pack. It's got 435 horsepower. It goes 0-60 in about 4.5 seconds.Honestly, the majority of people that bought the performance pack. Don't track their cars. They buy the performance pack. So they can say they have the performance pack. The real track guys go aftermarket.
Except, they didn't lose a sale...as they have a set allotment of GT350s and they sell every single one of them.Ford lost a sale of GT350 when I couldn't get one at sticker.
Is it confirmed the PP2 wheels will be forged? I think PP2 will be PP + recaros, magneride, active exhaust and the wider wheels/cup 2s coming in at $45-$46k. $48-$50k will be ridiculous unless the PP2 is a GT350 with the Coyote/MT82.Agreed also. Add the wider forged wheels, cloth recaros and if rear brembos and active exhaust is part of the package I can see it being $48k+ maybe they'd add some coolers and make it an even $50k.
They did loose a sale. There are plenty of them on lots. But yes you are right they will eventually sell them all. But not necessarily within the same calendar year. How many new 2016 GT 350's are still on lots...Except, they didn't lose a sale...as they have a set allotment of GT350s and they sell every single one of them.
Flagship as in Corvette being their current best sports car line up. NOT BEST OF CORVETTES! 1LE SS is not a high end camaro, its an ss with a track pack on it, similar to the old mustang gt tp or current mustang gt pp. As soon as GT350 entered the price range of a Corvette, it is a fair game.Let's compare that to your prior statement:
So which is it, base or flagship? Because the flagship Corvette is the Z06, and will soon be the ZR1.
Nobody is denying that a higher end Camaro can beat the base Corvette. But the point has been made by myself and others that comparing the Camaro to the Corvette isn't the same as comparing the Mustang GT to the Mustang GT350. The Corvette is a different demographic compared to the other three.
Every GT350 I have seen on a lot has had ADM over $10K. At MSRP there would be zero on the lots. They did loose a sale. There are plenty of them on lots. But yes you are right they will eventually sell them all. But not necessarily within the same calendar year. How many new 2016 GT 350's are still on lots...
I think a lot of people get the PP because they find the stock GT ride too soft and like the brakes and don't want to cobble together an aftermarket solution.Honestly, the majority of people that bought the performance pack. Don't track their cars. They buy the performance pack. So they can say they have the performance pack. The real track guys go aftermarket.
