So I've been wanting to do a different hood, but none of them really make excited. I had a 4" cowl on my 2015 and it looked great but I'm not sold on the 4" for the 18+. So to hold me over in the mean time, I purchased the air designs hood vents. I think they look pretty good but I'm not a fan that the only functional vent is the most rearward "vent" also the "vents" aren't top notch. They look a little funky. 99% of people won't notice it. But overall they look fantastic. I wish I would have got them finished in gloss black before I mounted them though. Also, if you purchase these, do not tighten the studs much. I wasn't even hand tight and broke one... I was a bit irritated with this since they cost $300 since there wasn't any free shipping option. But they're still the best looking vents for the 18+ cars.

These are actually a ' Genuine Ford' part, listed on their accessories page. They are manufactured by AirDesign for Ford, and have a Ford part number.

gloss black: VJR3Z-16C630-D
matte black: VJR3Z-16C630-C

Here's a whole list of the Genuine Ford accessories:

Hi,

Has anyone repainted 2018+ hood vents ?

If so, how did you strip out the grill part from the main body ?

Any help appreciated :like:

Cheers,

WD :like:

Dude, that looks great!!
Thanks, the first couple cuts were butt puckering.
And then my dumbass forgot to paint the cut areas. Luckily, I had only riveted two, so I drilled them back out and painted the cut areas flat black to match the extractor.

Hahaha, I remember that when I installed a wing on my '16, it was a PP convertible, so no existing holes, and I wasn't going to just 3M a moderately sized aero component on the car.

That scene from Spies Like Us kept running through my head, "... and now, the first incision."

I did the same thing to my '19 (GT/PP/convertible), different wing, but same process, and this time I was like, measure once! Stand back!

You going to keep the factory front vents or swap those out too?

LOL
If Trackspec makes a kit that fits into the stock vent area and removes the factory piece, I will get it or I may buy a universal set and make them fit into the area. I dont really like the factory nostril. Its weird looking to me

My Alibaba Roush knock off's just arrived to Canada in approximately 10 days. They look like perfect replicas for 1/5th the price.

Not feeling the matte finish, so they're going out for gloss black paint.

Kudos for attempting that job. I would never cut a section of my hood out of my Mustang. That said, I realize looks are subjective and to each his own and all that, but I can't help but think it looks like a homemade job. I mean, it looks straight and installed properly, but I personally don't dig it. It looks like an HVAC grille tacked on there. Anyway, if you like it, good on you for taking this on.

That said, I've never noticed the hood shaking on my '18 GT even at 80+ mph. I thought that was more of a 15-17 issue? Are the 15-17 hood vents functional?

Same here. Went almost 140mph at COTA and it didn't flutter at all. No hood pins, factory equipment.

I disagree with the HVAC grate comment, I think it looks good and not a redneck garage special. Only thing I wish track spec would do is make a small set of louvers to replace the stock pieces.
