I would get a quote for both. With the V6 being the entry price point, more young male drivers could be the primary demographic driving up rates. This is applying the same logic around why a 22 yr old male with a clean record will pay more to insure a civic tham a vette. Of course your results may vary depending on state, country, insurance provider, etc.

Also keep in mind heavily modifying a vehicle without disclosure could lead to insurance issues should something happen regardless of which party is at fault.

IF I was in your position of staying away from the V8 b/c of high insurance, why not get the Ecoboost, it should be similar insurance and only a little more in price. Use the money that was going to be spent on the blower and upgrade to a premium.

Then with just an aftermarket tune you can get an extra 20-30hp, with a new intercooler and piping + tune you're at like +50-70hp. That would be significantly cheaper than a blower set up on a V6. And if you did the tune only you're much less likely to have any engine/warranty issues. Also you'd have a massive amount of torque across the board.

Wait until 2028? No, one more year, because you know the 2029's will have the new Pratt & Whitney turbine engine. :lol: But yeah, OP, definitely look into insurance costs for a young pup in a GT. (And you might want to be sitting down when you hear it). But if you can swing a newer V6, that still wouldn't be bad for a young guy to have something that new. My cars at that age were FAR from new.

Work your way up to the GT years from now when your insurance won't be as high, you have a better financial cushion, and you're ready to start modding. I totally get it, everyone wants a GT, but living on scraps so you can afford one is no fun. Most of us started out in used cars when we were young, and they weren't anywhere near the power of a modern S550 V6. I would have killed for one when I was 18.

Good luck buddy, if you do decide on the V6, just remember they won't ever stop making Mustangs. It's an American icon. When you're ready for a GT it will be there.

I'd say just wait, it's worth it.

If you like the 18, get it...but if you don't, you can get the 17 for cheap(er).

I'm 21 and insurance for my GT is $2,000 a year. When I had my 03 M3 at 18 It was the same price just to give you an idea on the insurance. I also have a clean driving record somehow and live in SoCal.

I'd buy a 2016, that's what I did in Aug. You can wait, but I'm to impatient. I'm glad I just went and bought my car, because I've been having a blast with it. As other's have said, I would look into GT insurance, there are so good deals to be had on any 16' GT's you can find left on lots, and insurance might not be a huge difference depending on location. Once the 18's are out people will be saying to wait until the 21's or whenever the next model comes out. Life's short, buy the best you can, when you can, and have fun with it.

currently have a 96 mustang gt and the v8 is so beast with an x-pipe
dont wanna leave it but i found a nice build for a v8 and honestly like if u take a car and put ur touch on it u will love it no matter what the performance or looks. the 96 isnt pretty but i love it for what i have done

Easy answer. Just wait for the 2018 reveal which could be in about 3 weeks in LA or in a couple of months in Detroit. If you don't like the 2018, you can still place an order for a 2017 until late March or buy one from the lot.

Like he said.....there's a lot coming for 18. If you can afford it, wait it out and see if you like it at the reveal, then make your decision.

I myself always want the newest and the best before anyone else. I know the "newest of the new" is short lived but that's me. I ordered my '07 vert when the order banks opened Mar '06 and I was driving the car in June. It has all the then-new for '07 options - cloth roof, heated seats, premier trim wrapped dash and elbow touch points, exterior appearance package will rolled exhaust tips, etc. I loved it then, I still love it now, and I plan on keeping it when I order my 18 hardtop.

I suggest you get a used 2011+ S197 V6. Cool car. Plenty of power. Great looks and the payment will be $200 a month instead of $500.

Otherwise you have a few years to wait before the next generation comes out.

If I had 300hp when I was 18, I'd be dead or in jail. V6 is a great choice to get in and drive and just have fun. Ecoboost is great for modding, but be careful you support a tune with the proper after market parts.

A GT insurance wise would be astronomical. Your insurance company will be licking their chops waiting for you to pay that premium. Now if you've got the $$$, I say live your life. 18 with a GT, you'll have the whole cheerleading team in your phonebook. But if affordability is a factor, 6MT V6 sit on most lots for ages or have a ton of incentives. Base manual ecoboost models aren't far off price wise.

Test drive both and pick which experience you enjoy more.

not yet 18 in april
saving up every paycheck plus selling my car for a hefty 10k down payment.
v6 payment + insurance would only be 2 weeks worth of week for me... im very interested
