I picked up my GT about 3 weeks ago after a 2 month wait. Mechanically the car is amazing but as I started going through the Sync 3 options, I noticed a few things were off;

My SIRIUS Travel Link App works for weather and gas stations but not for Traffic. I have a button that says "Refresh Traffic" but when I touch it, there is a quick loading screen for "acquiring traffic data" but then nothing happens. No traffic is loaded or displayed.

I just called and talked to a SIRIUS agent who sent me a link to refresh my signal. I refreshed the signal and confirmed it updated but Traffic still doesn't work. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Also, my GT came with Android Auto preloaded but I don't see any Apple Carplay or SIRI installed. Do I have to connect an iphone first for these apps to show or should they have come pre-installed?

I appreciate any input. If nothing else, my last option is to factory reset the unit and try everything all again.

Just plug in the iphone and it should be straight forward for carplay. It must be plugged in to work.

Correct it must be physically plugged in and at which point it will ask for Siri to be turned on if it isn't already. Perhaps in a future update it will be wireless with voice activation?

I can't get Apple Carplay to work at all. Just wondering if anyone actually uses it. I have my iPhone plugged in and tried all kinds of stuff to get it to work. I can get the music part of the phone to work thru sync3 but not the Apple Car play.

Thanks guys. I'll plug in my iphone and get that sorted out.

Anybody know about the Traffic updates problem? That's my biggest concern now.

Wild ass guess, but do they have traffic info where you live. Your profile says Texas, but think it is a rather large state.

Your profile shows you have a 2016. If that's true then you don't have android auto or Apple CarPlay. You'll have to wait for the upgrade to become available just like the rest of us.

I'm actually in Dallas so I'm sure there's traffic info here. I'd be surprised and very disappointed if it weren't.

My profile shows I joined in 2016 but I have a '17 [2017] GT
I ordered the car from factory so I'm sure I have a 2017 GT :D

You should call the Sirius folks again. If you are getting any of their assistance products and not the one you want, it is extremely unlikely you have a problem with the car.

As for the year comment he was directing that to Totally Bored.

Yea, I was thinking about resetting sync to factory default and starting over but I think I'll give SIRIUS another call first. I'll post what solution I find.

Ah, gotcha...about the year comment :)

Sirius isnt going to be much help honestly, this isnt a signal problem from their end, you were able to update/refresh the data, that itself says its communicating correctly. And since you said your getting weather, and im sure the rest of the travel link infos it provides.

I would start with doing a factory reset on the sync 3, if that doesnt work, then I would take it to ford since my personal opinion it seems to be a software issue, and they may have to reflash the sync 3 overlay on the QNX OS. Also ford can reflash the 5 year license back into the sync 3, which could also be the problem, just cause the other apps work doesnt mean there isnt a license error.

Also note it can take anywhere between 2 min to 5 mins to download traffic updates, I've had that happen to me a few times. But when I entered the destination and drive the traffic location icons would appear within 2-5 miles ahead of the traffic.

Hey Tweet_this,

I recommend contacting Sirius again regarding certain features working. However, you can also reset the module and see if that makes a difference. To perform the reset: Select radio > Hold the power button (center of the volume knob) + the right-seek button at the same time for up to 5 seconds.

Totally Bored,

Sal33n is correct in stating that the 2016 vehicles do not have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The update for the SYNC 3 systems is due to be released by the end of the year. Check your SYNC account periodically for info and updates: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/how-tos/keep-your-sync-up-to-date.html

Thanks for the input, AngelDeath and FordIVteam!

So, a quick update. I called Sirius again today and they resent the signal (even sent me a personal link to reset the signal whenever) but traffic still doesn't work. So I performed a factory rest on the module and tried it again. I sat in the car and saw all the apps update (movies, weather, gas stations, etc) but traffic still didn't update so I just let it be.

Tomorrow, I will try the hard reset on the module and see if that works. If not, I'll take it back to the dealer to get it re-flashed. Will update later. Wish me luck!

Something else just crossed my mind, I know another forum member had an issue with his A/C and not working properly by blowing air. After your hard reset you try tomorrow, I know its not a signal issue as you said everything updates except traffic. If the Hard reset doesnt work, then disconnect the battery for 5 mins, and then try reconnecting it. Like I said I know another forum member has an A/C blower issue and surprisingly this reset the module to work properly.

If that doesnt work, then Dealer is only thing left.
