I think you're wrong. GT500 will come out and it will compete with the 6th Gen ZL1.

The 6th Gen Camaro SS is 51K fully loaded, The GT350 (Non-R) Will out handle and out power the Camaro so Ford will have a Hot car & as with any new vehicle initial production is slow, demand is high, which reflect 10K + ADM's
I think you need a new calculator. Plus a fully loaded GT is over $46000, so you think those sales will stop because it's only $4000 less then a gt350?

Just can't get enuff!
Ford will get a return on their investment, both in sales and competition. The z28 spent years, and I mean years in R&D and went from ZL1 to 1LE before they decided on cubic inches. They never tested ran with the class like the GT350 did or paid as much attention to US tracks. Chevy spent $$$ and started this z28 project waaaaaay back before the zl1 took its place. They STILL haven't sold all of those cars and seen very little real success in Motorsport, at least honorable success... The 350 is selling and is actually quite a handful in racing... these two vehicles couldn't be any farther apart, no matter how bad they try and convince you otherwise.
The problem with the Z/28 is GM started the entry price way too high for a one -hit wonder, IMO... I think it should have started in the mid-high 50's at most.

The new GT350 on the other hand is priced at a very tempting starting price... good call on this one.

This was stated waaaaaaay back before the 350 was even shown. Unless Ford Performance's role in Motorsport suddenly diminishes, they will need a Mustang to fill the part.

The GT350 is a different animal compared to the z28. The reason is, the GT350 is a tool developed strictly for Motorsport. They spent 3 years in R&D because this was a homologation effort.

The z28 didn't really have a Motorsport goal nor was it tested as such. Chevy spent zero dollars on the Camaro Motorsport program and pretty much left it up to the teams to develop a z28 for racing.

Street GT350s don't have to be in production in order for them to keep producing the GT350R-C (the actual race car). They did this with the Boss 302S, which you could order as a 2014 long after the last normal Boss 302 rolled off the line. They could stop making the street 350 and then move on to a GT500 or some other special edition car (Mach 1?) while still selling GT350R-C's for motorsports until another model of "streetable track car" cycles through again.

Many, many posts on this in the past and beyond 2017 all is speculation. Five year figure comes from one dealer, not officially from Ford. Unless somebody has a reliable quotable source brand new in the past few weeks and will post it, we just do not know how long this car will be produced if at all beyond 2017. Otherwise, speculate away.

No Ford is not going to run the GT350 for 5 years..please  Its a two year run, and that it, then Ford is going to release another HOT car..remember Fords plan to release XYZ amount of cars by 2020...
I doubt it this time, there was always a push to streamline the naming scheme. BMW, Merc, Ferrarri, Aston, Porsche... all have a streamlined theme, some stronger than others. Besides brand identity, a broad brand personality can be somewhat tedious. Ford has heard the "new model every month" moniker and sadly, Mach, Boss, Cobra Jet and so on, are likely doomed to Prototype status. As in, reserved for show vehicles like King Cobra.

I will miss all the names but I won't miss the clutter... There is only room for 3 levels of V8, the GT is a must and the GT350 is required in Motorsport. The 350 is also one of THE most highly regarded in road racing... Many other manufacturers don't have that heritage to market, I doubt Ford will let the GT350 go, especially since it took them sooooo long to finally aquire it legally.

The GT500 has a HALO role just as it had last generation. With Ecoboost tech and the absence of a V8 and GT500 tells me that is exactly what's behind the curtain. Once the GT500 is unleashed, it will garner the same attention as the Hellcat brought about. It's a huge angle to toss away... the 500 is just too o established to bump for another...

I feel you though, I will miss the names... but, the first step in becoming a World Class sports coupe is to appear world class in every aspect.

Yes, dealers are in the program for two years from what I've read.

Yep beyond 2017 is just wild speculation. Ford has a contract with Shelby NA so the name isn't going away whether GT350 or GT500. It has been stated many times by Ford the Shelby name is a highly recognizable brand for their halo Mustangs. Ford has stated they will not have two Shelby's produced simultaneously so if the GT500 is in the future the GT350 production would end if it indeed plays out that way.

One thing to consider...now that they offer their corner carver, maybe it's time for a serious boulevard brawler next! Bye Hellcat!

I am still hopeful that Ford aquired the Cobra Roadster name as well. There is still room on the Performance models promised...

A new Cobra Roadster would have me seriously considering a 2 seater for the first time ever... as well as a convertible... The Miata had my attention but couldn't keep it, a Cobra would make me sh!t myself...

I don't know how true it is but I read that ford can use Shelby and cobra names but not together. That's why then they made the Shelby gt500, the cobra name dropped (even though it retained the emblem, which, btw, is not the same snake that the cobra roadster uses).

Pill, just build you one. I have one (replica) and it's a completely different driving experience. People that claim they gotta have a manual to be more engaged and be more raw and blah blah have no idea what engaged and raw driving experience really is lol. No amenities with all the sublety of walking into church with a half dressed hooker on one arm and a rocket powered chainsaw on the other.

The invitation from Ford was for a 2 year program - 2016 & 2017 model years. We signed ours and sent it to Ford, and they just charged us for the $1,000 sign up fee a few weeks ago after sending up a case of brochures, posters, and a cool GT350 brake rotor business car holder (that's currently sitting on my desk full of my business cards, of course).

So does that mean 2018 and beyond will be the 2nd half of the program? Also probably signifying that 2018 will introduce a facelift for the line up.
