I had a 2017 GT350 that I was not kind to. Nothing like a car screaming at 8500 rpm’s in 1st and 2nd gear and it’s just wanting more. It is a drivers car, you will feel the car, it’s not numb, and it’s exciting. Even being 2017 and the engine blows from oil starvation it can still get replaced under warranty. The numbers are low but the percentage was high enough to cause concern with ford to take care of the gt350 owners. If it was me again, I’d have no problem buying another 2017 and it’s easy to do a piston/ rod drop in with tighter ring tolerances (if keeping NA). If there is oil consumption just keep an eye on it to prevent oil starvation which is where the fun happens. Also, replace the valve covers with GT500 ones as the gt350 covers are prone for leaking.

I just gave some facts, no opinion. Yes the VooDoo right or wrong has a rep of blowing up.
Yes the car is out of warranty.

4100 miles and 2 owners?

I appreciate everyone’s opinion regardless if they are pro or con. I’m leaning no for a pretty silly reason, I don’t like the Recaro seats due to the limited adjustability. If I’m going to spend 60k (cash) then I want the car I want. I’m not concerned about the motor as I’ll never track it, just spirted driving when the mood strikes me. Thanks to all.

We all have our reasons to buy or not buy for sure. That said, a seat swap is pretty easy to do and there might someone here wanting Recaro’s that has the base seats that you could trade with. And FWIW, if you can find a set of the GT500 Recaro’s they are super comfortable and I think they adjust a little more (but I’m not 100% sure on that, someone that owns them could chime in).

Yep i agree for that money buy the car that fits you best! FYI I have the adjustable heated/cooled seats for road driving and find them really comfortable.

MACh1 owner here! When I decided I wanted to come back to the Ford world from 20+ years of owning AMG Mercedes the 2013 Boss 302 is what I was searching for! Searched high and low for a Grabber Blue one that had low miles and well taken care of. A TN. dealer got one in on trade during Covid with 12,000 miles on it. I went up and drove the car and visually fell in love with it! Drove it was pleased with everything except the clutch and transmission. Clean service records and nothing in Ford's system related to transmission, yet the clutch engagement was way up and trans grinded @ WOT shifting from 2nd to 3rd and 4th. I went home and started reading forum posts about the Boss 302's and about 60% of owner complaints were transmission related. Not a lot of negative posts about Boss cars, but the transmission ones and my seat time turned my attention elsewhere.
The GT350 production had stopped, but I was driving past my local Ford dealer and a Race Red GT350 caught my eye. 2017 local trade for GT500 with 11,000 miles. Gorgeous F'n car so I stopped and inquired. Sales guy brought me the keys and said take it for a spin! Loved it from the start button push!! The only negatives were the worn out flat spotted tires and the Recaro's! I went home and went online looking for more info etc on forums and YouTube. Twice as much negative info as there was positive. Endless posts and videos about oil consumption and replacement motors. I was like WTF????
I went back to the dealer 3 days later armed with all my online expertise! Before asking for service records etc....I pulled the coil cover and looked at the engine serial #. Yep..... replacement motor. The CarFax confirmed it! SOAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Back home and searching AutoTrader and reading/watching more online info....it seemed Ford figured it out and that the 2019 and up GT350s were the way to go! Prices were higher, but hell you only live once!!! My mind was made up....nationwide search for a Grabber Blue GT350 with any package just as long as it had leather heated and cooled seats.
I shortly found out that the car I was looking for was pretty rare because of the color, but there were a few out there. Dealers and private owners knew what that had and with the used car market at all-time highs and me being picky as F' I passed on any that had been modified or that had mileage above 10,000.
I found one in Atlanta (2019) at a Ford dealership.....Gold Certified, 1 owner, with 4500 miles. Winner...Winner Chicken Dinner!
I contacted the dealership and started the buying process. The only hold-up was what they offered me for my trade. Went back and fourth over $5k for a few days and before I knew it the car was sold!!SOAB!!
I stopped looking because prices were getting stupid high for about 6 months. My band was playing at an outside festival/car show and before soundcheck I went and walked the car show. All the Mustangs new and old were club parked together and I spotted this battleship grey Mustang that looked really good! I went over and met the owner and noticed MACh! emblems....hmmmm. Found out it was brand new and he explained the parts bin stuff and I was like.....sounds cool....5.0 with all the Shelby stuff. The next day I contacted my local dealership and asked to place an order! All sold!!
Started looking nationwide and found exactly what I wanted....bought it a tad below MSRP and she sits happily in my garage! As impressive as the MACh1 is.....if the right GT350 comes up I will pull the trigger instantly! Shelby's are Iconic and looking back I wish I would have ignored all the online stuff and just bought one! Don't think you can go wrong with either car! IMHO!
The days of high horsepower manual shifted cars are numbered.....Get one while you still can!!!

You passed on a car with a replacement engine, I would have considered that a bonus. Most if not all got the gen 2 VooDoo as a replacement.

A 17 is out of warranty. The early VooDoo's have a reputation of blowing up.
How do you know? My 18 wasn't originally sold till April of 2020 and my b2b just ran out a week ago.

Power train still good for 2 more years and I'm buying an ESP. His could still have some power train left depending on when it was sold.

Even if it is outside of warranty, he can buy a Ford ESP on it if he wants to cover it.

The one I’m looking at is Race Red with a black stripe. Dealer is asking 3k more than MSRP when new.
Times have changed, I bought my 2018 with 1,500 miles for 52k 2 1/2 yrs ago.

I'd say mid to high 50s for a 2017. How much powertrain warranty is left?

You can buy an ESP on it from Lombard Ford for a little over dealer cost if you are nervous about it.

These are $25k engines.. get an OASIS report done to see what it's history is. I'm assuming not much since it is such low mules.

I have 17k now on mine and zero issues. Love it and the smiles are amazing. But I won't keep it outside of warranty for my piece of mind.

Factory warranty is 3/36. Read the internet for the rep. I will bet money if I lined up 10 17 gt350's 3 would have had engine replacements.

I don't get the Shelby people. Maybe because I rode HD's since the 1970's I have thick skin when people say true things about them.

You know HD's don't handle, they don't stop, they leak oil, they vibrate themselves to pieces.........

I'd love a GT350. I would pull the VooDoo and install an Aluminator. Ride it hard and when it came time to sell I'd let the buyer decide if he wants the VooDoo in a crate or in the engine compartment.

I'll chime in here. I bought a 2017 GT350 new and payed sticker (which was hard to do at the time). After 5 years (yes...Im out of warranty), the car has been flawless and continues to run STRONG. Zero issues after 13K. I cant bring myself to sell it due to the endless smiles it provides. Dont let them tell you the gen 1 engines are problematic, as they are not. Car uses almost no oil. Good luck. If you get a 350, you will not be sorry.

Another 2017 owner here. Took delivery of an early build on Oct 2016. I have had no issues and the car is still in my garage. I love every time I get to drive it and I’m thankful for the track attack experience, meeting other owners and learning what this car can actually do on the track.

I think issues are overblown and many of their earlier problems were operator error and dealer tech inexperience. Stating torque specs on the oil filter etc and taking your time can go a long way.

I used to be nervous and think about what could be, now out of warranty I’m just enjoying the drive. Do what makes you happy.

I bought my 2018 with 1200 miles for $50K before the pandemic craziness. I read all of the reports before I started looking, so I knew there was a possibility of oil burning and blowing an engine. I took a couple GT350s for a test drive, and I was sold on their performance and the pure joy of the VooDoo’s sound, so I knew I had to have one.

My engine was flawless for 2.5 years (never burned oil) until I sold it during the height of the car buying frenzy for $63K to Vroom. The car never made it to their website because the guy checking it in was a Mustang fanatic, so he bought for himself before it was ever listed.

I regret selling it now, but it sure was nice to make such a large profit on a used car. In todays market, I would say the car in question is priced a little high due to the year. As others have stated, the 2017s had a slighter higher failure rate than the later years. If they have been sitting on it, offer them $55K and see if they bite.
