today while driving home from work on the highway the check engine light started flashing. I was driving normal at highway speed. Had just under 1/4 tank of gas. Light went off after about 5 mins. Went home for about an hour then got back into car to go get gas. Staterted the car after filling tank with premium no check engine light.

The car has the Lund premium gas tune and it's an auto tans. Tune has been on the car for about 20k mi with no issues. Car has 45k on it now and still has original plugs.

Any ideas what caused the check engine to flash? Noticed idle was a little rough when cel was flashing.

Had a similar issue except mine wasn’t flashing. There’s definitely some light misifiring under partial throttle or cruising. A little research lead me to think it’s bad IMRC plates in the intake manifold. Haven’t taken it to the dealer yet for a diagnosis but it’s worth considering.

Can you pull the code with your tuner? Mine was a P0308 cyl 8 misfire.

I’ll try pulling code with my tuner and let you know. But the issue is gone now. Car pulls strong now not flashing cel.

On some cars the code is stored for at least a couple restarts. Maybe it’s longer with newer cars where data storage is less of a concern.

Usually a flashing cel means a real time misfire and unburned gas is getting through to the catalytic converters.

I had always been told a flashing check engine light meant you should immediately stop driving or damage is likely. Is that not the case?

See above comment about active missfire and unburnt fuel entering the cats. That's always a good way to damage them.
So yes, generally that's a pull over issue as soon as it is safe.

I don't have much experience with these cars yet, but when I was in the Shelby Dodge scene, tuners would have the check engine light flash if a certain amount of detonation was detected. Maybe Lund does something like this?

That im not aware of. So maybe the flashing cel is due to some detonation / lean condition and doesn't log a code?
