Interesting. So if I were to do a FBO set up with a tune (98 grade fuel in Sydney) on a 2015-17 I’d get similar performance doing the same with a gen 3
No, While the A10 adds a lot of performance to the 18+ the gen3 also makes more power stock to stock and bolton to bolton.

Get the 10 speed its day and night to the 6 speed. Makes me want to trade my whipple 17 gt in for a stock 2021 10 speed when they come out

18 up PP1 with a10 hard to beat. I have crossed shopped everything in the 35-40k new range (actual buy $) and nothing still comes close especially after adding a $450-600 E85 tune. Shit is bad for n/a 302.
Gen 3 Coyote is actually a 307 c.i.; it gained 5+ c.i. by switching from the iron liners to the plasma arc spray in. 93mm bore vs 92.2mm bore. Gen 3 has more aggressive camshafts (1 mm higher lift), direct injection, higher compression ratio, larger valves with upgraded springs, 1 mm longer head bolts, stronger head design with revised ports, rebalanced crank for higher rpm operation, redesigned intake; the updates to Gen 3 are numerous over Gen 2.

I agree the 2018+ A10 Gen 3 Coyote is awesome, esp. w/ the lower gearing of the PP1 torsen rear end.

The Ford performance power pack 2 for the Gen 2 Coyote gets close to the peak hp output of the Gen 3, but it is still a little shy on peak hp and definitely shy on total power under the curve, and low-end torque, compared to a stock Gen 3 Coyote. The Gen 3 coyote has a flatter torque curve at the top end and more low end torque. Also, the power of a power pack 2 gen 2 coyote drops off much faster and earlier than a stock Gen 3.

...how long the gears are in the manual.
Most of the responses are reading your question as referring to the "gearing" but I initially assumed you're referring to the "throws". I'm pretty sure you can get a short throw shifter if it's the 2nd.

No I did mean the gears were just so tall. I’d love to be able to drop gears and rip through a couple of them. But with the 2018 manual you don’t even have to drop, maybe one gear and even then can’t really rip it out through the revs (legally)

I have an 18 MT82 PP1 car. I love the MT82 with the 3.73 rear gears that come in the PP1. Might be worth trying to test drive if you insist on staying manual.

It is literally the transmission gearing - in '18 max speed in second gear is ~74 mph, in '15-17 it's ~58 mph - so with similar torque / power of both gen engines, '18 feels slower.

Got it. I've got a '16 GT PP and I find 1st gear way too short ... feel that Ford put it there just to allow you to do a burnout at the track. Is 1st any longer on the '18+ GT's with 3.73 rear ends?

I have a NEW 17 GT that we tore apart and made the only Auto PP1 Convert. So my next step is to add the Power pack 2 kit and I will report back this Spring.

The 2018+ interior is actually quite improved. I've owned a 16 and now I have a 19. The differences are subtle, but they're the differences that make the difference. Soft touch materials, metal start button, new steering wheel, multiple panels reengineered with additional clips and rattle dampening. The 19 is a much nicer place to be.

I never noticed that. What I did notice is how the A10 hunts around annoyingly at low speeds, like in 25-30 mph zones. It shifts well, just very often. Drove me crazy.

Thanks for your input guys!

I should bring up than in Australia we don’t get offered PP packs. Mustangs come standard in premier trim (to my understanding) and we can just option any visual aspects we like to the car.
I’ll have to find a soul nice enough to let me test drive their 15-17 mustang to compare. Currently
I’m liking the idea of saving 10-15k on buying the first gen and going FBO + short shifter + wheels and tires with the extra cash savings. E85 in my area also isn’t all that available so a lower compression gen 2 that can handle more boost (in the future) on 98 might be the smart choice. I can also always add a GT350 wheel and carbon trim pieces on the interior. Also the body kit options for the 15-17 are extensive. For a JDM boy coming to ADM the quality of the aftermarket is amazing, hardly any fibreglass? What in the world have I been missing out on.

luckily I still have about a year before I make a purchase and if 18+ prices drop more by then I might be in a pickle once more hahaha

If you bought a used manual with the pp1 373 gearing, then put in 4.10 or steeper gearing, the car would really rock big time.
