You're confused about my point. Can I afford a price increase, sure. Do I want to pay an extra $1,000/year? Who would "want" that. This sounds like a situation that my father would tell me to sit down and seriously think about what I really need versus what I want. I understand wanting a new Mustang, but if the increase in fuel cost annually is a problem, are you certain that this is the right car for you - or perhaps the right version of the car for you? Its not my place to say that it is or isn't, I'm only pointing out that sometimes its tough to balance wants and needs, and it warrants careful consideration. I've been down that road many times...
I can afford my cell phone and cable bill but when they offer $5 less a month I take it. When I can get $0.12/litre off the price of gas through points program I use it.
Also, my point was less about my personal situation and more about a lack of empathy towards what others may have to deal with.
