This sounds like a situation that my father would tell me to sit down and seriously think about what I really need versus what I want. I understand wanting a new Mustang, but if the increase in fuel cost annually is a problem, are you certain that this is the right car for you - or perhaps the right version of the car for you? Its not my place to say that it is or isn't, I'm only pointing out that sometimes its tough to balance wants and needs, and it warrants careful consideration. I've been down that road many times...

You're confused about my point. Can I afford a price increase, sure. Do I want to pay an extra $1,000/year? Who would "want" that.
I can afford my cell phone and cable bill but when they offer $5 less a month I take it. When I can get $0.12/litre off the price of gas through points program I use it.
Also, my point was less about my personal situation and more about a lack of empathy towards what others may have to deal with.

What others may have to deal with, though, is still exactly what I was talking about, I wasn't really implicating you solely. Frankly, since we now know what to expect with each version, you can't say that costs of operation are hidden and will sneak up on someone unexpectedly that might be in a tougher situation. Rather, they should know what they're getting into before making the choice, and understand the consequences of that. That leads me back to, as I said, that individual needing to think hard and long about what really is the best option for them. My point still stands.

Let's face it, if someone's financial situation is such that a couple hundred dollars over the course of a year is a hardship (I'm talking hardship, not mere inconvenience), that person probably isn't being financially responsible if they buy a $40K V8 sports car, and would be better served by either a base model or maybe something that's overall more practical (Focus, Fiesta, etc). If the costs are simply an inconvenience that you'd prefer not to pay, well, that's understandable, but that's the choice you have to make. Frankly, there a lot of minor things about the option combinations that I find to be inconvenient, and would want it to be different if I had that choice. I'd also "like" the fuel economy to be like that of a Fiesta, and the price too for that matter, because who wouldn't "want" that? But we have to accept the reality of it being what it is. If it really bothers you that much, you can choose something else, or not to buy at all. You at least have that choice...

I think V6 mileage will be on par with the EB given with actual world driving and these numbers, just like EVERY manufacturer EPA number (especially Ford), is derived from tuning made specially for the EPA cycle test.

Im sure you can meet or exceed these numbers if the car is broken in and you drive like a grandma

Not sure about you, but where I am, the spread between regular (87 octane) and premium (93 octane) can be like a dollar a gallon. Normally a 40 or 50 cent jump from regular to mid-grade, then another 40 or 50 cent jump to premium.

Dayum, that's crazy.

Out here, it's a $0.10 spread, so only $.20 from regular to premium.

For me, I'm coming from Diesel to Gas, so it's less than that. For a while, diesel and premium were the same or diesel was even more expensive. Although at the moment it's about $0.10 less.

I'm only going to say this once, and never ever ever again, lest my wife sell the car without me knowing. The only thing for me is going from filling up once every 2-3 weeks, to filling up every week. My Jetta gets 520mi per tank. But I'm fully prepared and will never speak of this again.

That's because everything is ridiculously priced and ala cart in NYC. I don't think most other areas have spread of more than $0.30-.40 for the range.

That's insane. Here in Southern Oregon regular at Chevron is $3.79 , midgrade is $3.91 and premium is $4.09..

Not sure if you guys knew of not, but the EPA's official site, FuelEconomy.gov has been updated with the 2015 Mustang figures. No more speculation. No more hunting through dealer inventory. Here it is straight from Uncle Sam...

Regular Gas

It says on the website it is based on regular gasoline, not premium. So I guess that part of the performance doesn't decrease if using regular gas. Ford suggest using premium to get the best performance by HP and torque?...Nonetheless I'm relieved I don't need premium gas to achieve the MPG numbers. That would have been a downgrade from the 2014 models.
