They show the 20" because people like them. The ride may still be comfortable for you but you'll get a more comfortable ride wit a smaller rim.

Yes tires are also a variable, but we're talking identical tires with different rims here.

If we're keeping tires the same across the board, then the bigger contact patch of the 20's should claw back the approximate 2lb weight difference.

Edit: With the contact patch of the 20's both wider and longer than the 19's; both straight line and cornering grip would be improved with the 20's over the 19's.

How much difference would be felt in the handling between the 19 x 8.5 vs. 19 X 9 wheels if they were wearing the same 255/40 tire?

I'll put it this way...I'm looking at either 18s or 20s, neither of which I'm going to keep at Ford's stock size upon replacement. 265/35/20 is an odd tire size...and 235/50/18 isn't wide enough. A set of four tires from TireRack at 265/35/20 is well over $1K+, where as a set of 275/35/20s is $500+ or 255/35/20s can be had for $600-700ish on up. Compare that to 255/45/18s at $$450-500ish and up...

It makes me wonder why Ford went with what they did when it came to the 20s...but my point is that you can find affordable 20s if you step up or down one size from stock. It makes a big difference in price, clearly.

Anybody think I would have any problems with 275/35/20s all around, or do you think I would need to stagger in the front to make them fit?

I doubt even a stopwatch could tell the difference, the difference in weight would be in ounces.

The SVT S550 that there are pictures of testing on the street, wears 295/35/19's on all 4 corners, so the width up front shouldn't be an issue. The only possible problem I could see is the height of the 275/35/20's. It's not "too tall" and it may work out fine, but it is on the taller side.

I personally think that will clear and not be a problem, but no one has a car to measure and the height is the only possible issue with that size.
My solution for myself is 305/30/20's, but with grip being my goal, not price.

Again there are no absolutes when making comparisons in a general way. A Dunlop motorcycle tire often weighed 5 pounds more than a Michelin same size. So changing brands can make a difference and the biggest difference performance wise will be the tire itself way more than the wheel. My PP wheels will be in the shed and stay there until I sell them or sell the car.

I would go with looks and right now, the 19 looks the best but not by much. Not sure if it is worth 1k. I may just stay with stock on the GT prem.

What happens if you get a flat on the 20's? No spare? Where does the spare sit for the 19's? Under car or in trunk?

I couldn't find what specific tires we're going to be used for anything other than the GT-PP, if someone could clue me into that info i'd love it.
Pirelli P-Zero Neros all-seasons for the GT as indicated here.

Thanks, seems like people are getting 30-40k miles out of them, depending on driving style.

If I was going to stay with the factory size and category of tire, I think i'd step up to the Potenza RE970AS Pole Position's. $36/tire more, but same mileage and better performing everywhere.

I would assume in the trunk and under the floor. I also believe vehicles without a spare get a small inflator with a can of sealant located where the spare would be.

They also get a giant Mickey Mouse hand/glove with the thumb sticking up.

Are you sure that's a thumb? It's on the wrong side of the index finger.

I was joking about the giant Mickey Mouse hand/glove that popped up if you didn't get a spare. :)

Suggesting that all who didn't get the spare got the middle finger instead.
