Title pretty much says it. I picked up a set of Roush Racing polished wheels off of a 2016 Roush Stage 3 Mustang. These are 20X9.5 wheels. The other wheel that I am looking at is from American Muscle but in a 19X9.5, link below.

https://www.americanmuscle.com/hyper-dark-2013gt500-19x95-2015.html

My GT is Shadow Black, I have added black tipped aftermarket exhaust so I think either finish will look decent....or maybe not. Heck it's kind of a coin toss at this point. Polished has always looked good against black paint.

I am more concerned with the ride of 20" vs. 19", as well as concerns of wheels damage due to unseen, but hit pot holes. It does also in part concern me with the very limited availability of a all season tire in a 20" diameter. Now granted Texas doesn't see much weather that would not be considered Summer, but as I understand it Summer tires do not like temps below 50 degrees, and those temps Texas does get in the winter/fall/spring.

I plain to go with a 275 width, unless I hear other wise that 265 maybe a better choice.

Lay it on me folks. Roush Polished or Hyper Dark, 20 vs 19? I really prefer to do this only one time. I picked up the Roush wheels for $500 so I don't think that I am too far upside down to get out of them for even money.

2 cents coming your way...

The performance advantage normally favors the 19". The cool factor favors the 20"... I run the 20's. I live in the Virginia Beach area and well... Its cold right now and driving with a level head is all that's needed when the temp drops and driving on summer tires. Last thing from me... I run 265's up (295 in back) from and that size limits the options. Everyone makes a 275 it seems.

Better overall performance. Better ride. Most 20" wheels make the brakes look tiny and the car like a donk. There are some exceptions that look very nice.

I really wanting to keep it squared rather than staggered. Don't get me wrong, I do like the staggered look. Just for any unexpected issues on a road trip I would prefer to be squared enough that I could make sure of my spare tire in an emergency.

So would a Shadow Black GT with Polished Roush Stage 3 20" Wheels be one of the exceptions? LOL

Would it make a difference if I planned to do a lowering performance spring on all four corners taking it down 1"?

The Roush 20" honestly are very nice looking.

I only mentioned that because you were thinking of the 265. The 275's on all 4 would be the way to go and if you wanted to try a different tire in the future you would more likely find it in a 275. I want to run the Firestone Indy 500's but they don't do a 265/20. The GT's brakes don't look dwarfed by the wheels but I could see the smaller V6 or Eco (non-pp) having that effect.

I have 19 stock so I want 20 because 19's are bit too small for my liking.
20 inch tires are so cheap now I don't see why not.
For a car the size of the Mustang, I think 20's look better than 19.

Compare the tire selection in the sizes your are interested in. Probably not a lot different for the very popular 275 size.

I would go for a 10" wheel, better for a 275 tire and gives you to option to go up another size or two if you feel the need in the future.

You seem to know what the downsides of a 20" wheel are. Just consider if you think the look is worth it.

19x10" ET40 with a 275/35-19, 285/35-19, or even 275/40-19 all around is a great setup that handles well and rides well. The 275/40 will ride better as there's more sidewall. As an added bonus, in almost every instance, a 19" setup weighs less than a comparable 20" setup so less rotating mass means better performance. I think 20"s look nice, but from a performance aspect 19"s have them beat every day of the week.

This car is running our 19x10" EC-7 wrapped in 285/35-19 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

I’ve done both. The 20” proportionally fit the car visually much better. Ride quality is a wash, no noticeable difference. Potentially more likely to be damaged by a pothole but it isn’t like they are going to bend at the slightest impact. There is zero difference with chances for curb rash, never heard that one before. Curb rash comes from ones ability to parallel park not wheel diameter. Performance on track should favor 19” but on the street it won’t matter.

I bought 20s and wished I would have got 19s, they just look huge to me on the car.
