Hey Everyone!

Since HERE Maps produces the map updates, they do charge for the new SD cards. The 2017 vehicles do not require SD cards, so those will be updated over WiFi. The Android Auto and Apple CarPlay update is due to be released by the end of the years for the 2016 vehicles equipped with SYNC 3. Please share general ideas with Ford Motor Company on how we can enhance our products and services, please visit http://social.ford.com

Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns!

This is why, as someone that worked for Ford a reasonably long time and owned a Focus ST3 with Sync, I secretly love the fact I never bought the premium/tech pack for my car. Biggest waste of money, biggest piece of junk out there. I plan to do an aftermarket option to have carplay and use actually updated accurate maps provided by google. No factory offering in any OEM touch screen Nav is worth a shit. Even what is now a more proper Nav setup in GM's sucks.

I have navigation and still use Waze or Google Maps almost 100% of the time, except to "Go Home" using the easy button on the screen from wherever I am. I'm not paying a single cent for a map update when a far superior navigation solution exists...
Waze is far superior than any in-dash navigation available. I don't know why people still opt for navigation in their cars. It's already obsolete before they take delivery of the car.

Hi Azzurro,

If the 2016 vehicles has the SYNC 3 system installed, it has the WiFi capability. The MyTouch systems still use the SD cards for navigation.

My 2015 GT has it but I've never really used it based on my experience with my wife's. Her 2015 Ford Taurus Limited has navi and when I came back from the dealer where we bought it I tested the Ford navi against Google maps on my phone. Google gave me a 6 hour trip where the Ford gave me a 10 hour trip and took me all over creation instead of the more logical Google map directions.

To me it is not worth it unless you just want it to be "up to date".

So is the new map offered version A8 ?

The good thing is for people with older maps, like A4, A5, when a new version comes out, people have their old one to sell on ebay! So you can pick up A6's for dirt cheap right now. If A8 is coming out hopefully, A7's will start hitting ebay cheap.

Still beats taking out phone and mount it on the suction cup or some kind of a third party mount system.

Does this mean the map updates are free updates over WiFi or will there still be a charge for them? I can't find an answer to this question anywhere.

that is not cheap
Suppose its a bit like the old Tom Tom and other makes where you had to pay for an updated map. But now they are free with certain Sat Navs
I wonder if as its now built onto the H/D for the Sync 3, they will charge? As you can do a update over wifi now
I have a Tom-Tom that I use in 3 cars and a motorcycle. The whole thing cost about that much and has lifetime free updates.

i'd rather have superior maps and traffic rerouting than an outdated nav. my skosche magnet mount works wonders with my iphone 6S plus.

I guess you have never vacationed in the mountains or other areas with no cell service.

If you are really interested in the updated maps on the 2015 then take a look at Ebay. A7(US/Canada) map update SD cards selling as low as $50. I was able to snatch one up for $65 shipped not bad considering new they sell for $150 as OP mentioned. I'll get it in this weekend if anyone is interested in hearing a review.
What does A7 represent? The area covered? The year? I see a few, but many don't indicate what year the maps are.

Hey awmustang,

We haven't been informed of any details regarding a cost, however, you can always contact HERE Maps and inquire with them. They can be reached at www.navigation.com or 866-462-8837.

I believe the A is the Area (US and Canada) and the 7 is merely a version number. They started with 1 and they are up to 7.

The US and Mexico maps are labeled B7.

waze allows you to navigate even without an internet connection, as long as you have the destination in history.

and actually yes, this just happened last week when we were at dingmans falls, PA. there was barely any reception there, but waze was able to get us out and back on the highway after visiting the falls.........
