I stayed up way too late last night finalizing development on the 8" Sync 4 kit for the S550 I just had this crazy idea for fun. Will the 13.2" screen fit? Well it fits, but it's a little big. Has the cool S650 boot up animation too. It would sit up slightly higher than it is now maybe 1/2" I just had it resting on the knobs

If I actually developed a mounting solution for this would anyone buy it? I'm guessing the retail price would be about $1399-$1499 for an 8" Sync 3 to 13.2" Sync 4 swap.

Most things work pretty well including the HVAC controls. It really only has the problem on 15-19's that any Sync 4 has which is radio presets and siriusXM not working but the ACM can be upgraded to a 2020+ to solve that. Audio works fine, sound settings, etc.

That's pretty cool. Does the screen interfere with the 2 rotary buttons for volume and radio?

It won't if I actually develop a kit for it. It will slightly cover the bottom of the air vents and for shorter people it may cut off the bottom of the PP gauges if they're equipped.

While it is cool, and I applaud the effort, to me, it still will look tacked on and not integrated in the dash. If it was say 10" and fit within the dash's bezel then you would have something.

I agree if it was just slightly shorter so it didn't block the vents it would be perfect. Thats why I posted here just trying to gauge if anyone would actually buy it or not. I'm sure someone would, but how many people.

I added another pic to the original post.

IMO maybe do a mount at the top, similar to this.

Negative for me as well. I've got big screens in my Lightning and Explorer that don't belong there, but there's a bit more cohesiveness with them. There's just not enough S550 in that spot to accept that big ole unit.

But since I'm here, might as well ask - what are the benefits of a Sync 4 upgrade?

Really the main benefit is built in wireless CarPlay and android auto (if sticking with 8"), plus a snappier interface. Bigger screen is well...a bigger screen and cool interface. Sync 4 you can also see the built in navigation map while CarPlay/AA is active but thats about it. Favorite button which isn't very useful.

Not interested in the least. The "jerry rigged" look is the biggest turn off for me in the S650 and this is worse. I suppose, given the space limitations, the workmanship is fine it just looks like it belongs on the island of the misfits. And, FWIW, I'd never put one up on top of the dash either. Among other things it would seem like too much of an invitation to break in and steal it.

Cool ideas all. Our 22 Acura RDX has wireless CarPlay & Android. Maybe I don’t know the hardware requirements but FORD should have created a wireless software update by now.

You can buy those wireless adapters to have wireless car play or android auto. that's what I have in mine.
I should have looked for that. Thanks! Which model works for you? Again thank you.

I think is called autosky...sometimes I have to unplug it and plug it back in..it's not perfect, but I think I paid under 40 bucks at the time, it works most of the time.

Just get an AAWireless Two+ for wireless CP/AA. Works great to convert wired to wireless. My phone goes in the center cubby and plugged into a high speed charger.

I am slightly interested in Sync 4 tho
