s650 replace front control arm from Steel to Aluminium. It should be lighter, and maybe better. My current Stang`s stock one got 10 years old now. I`m thinking if the new one works or not.
Interesting. I recently replaced my non PP1 front control arms with PP1 versions. I definitely feel a difference in responsiveness and stability, probably because of rubber bushing wear at 70k miles. Never thought of S650 arms.

It saves a couple of pounds, still need to install spherical bearings in the arms to eliminate the caster changes. Yes the 2022 knuckles have better steering geometry, and a stiffer hub.
What kind of "spherical bearings" ? Is it a OE part?

The pp`s are stronger than non pp`s, so you should feel different.

I did not understand the purpose of the post.
Yeah. Thanks for the 6-page thread reference @WD Pro !
Sorry, this was just crossed wires :like:

My train of thought went :

  • This thread's original topic (about the S650 alloy lower arms going on a S550).
  • GTP's question on whats better (I assumed this was about the arm, not the uprights that GTP was actually asking about and what OP responded to, as they had already been done to death on other threads).
  • I spotted the thread about the S650 arm failure, and remembered this thread.
  • I linked the S650 arm failure thread here (in response to the 'what's better about it' question).

Sorry for any confusion, it was all simple in my mind ... lol

Short of reading a 6-page thread, can you summarize it for us?

I don't obsess over the weight of parts in my car, based on overall car price and the fact that I track mine. I would not, for example, replace my front control arms with aluminum ones just to save a tiny percentage of overall weight, and then risk a broken suspension part at speed on track!

Post #1 sums it up - front control arm (alloy on the S650) broke for no apparent reason, and Ford can’t fix it quickly.

The real reason behind its breakage, or if this is a one off / an isolated case, is still under debate.

At this moment in time I wouldn’t be swapping them out, at least until there’s a clear picture of the (potential) problem :like:

I used the Steeda with the longer ball joint to get the control arm back at level when I lowered it.
