As for waving to other cars....I am a long time VW fan, GTI's and R's and almost every single owner will give a wave. Driving my Mustang I hardly get a wave from other Mustang drivers with the exceptions being modified cars. I get more waves and hoots from other drivers, some in SUV's. I am really not surprised though as most drivers are not enthusiasts no matter what they drive (except VW's seemingly).

Me and my buddies were flying around out in the country over the holiday, goosing my exhaust up and down this country road. This guy heard me and when I came back by his house he comes running out with a beer in his hand cheering like I was a hero returning from war. I'm assuming he was a mustang owner, lol.

I do get a lot of exhaust salutes from guys in lifted trucks with loud exhausts (Dodge trucks always try to beat me off the line, lol), older Camaro's, dodges, and guys with those supped up Ford hatchbacks. I never see newer Shelby's. I see do see older GT500's on occasion.

How do I treat non-shelby owners? Like people, just like I would a shelby owner. I must have missed the fine print that says I need to wave at other mustang owners when I bought the car.

There's an easy way out of that terrible situation: don't race back! It takes two to tango.

In his defense I do the same thing but then they take off and I'm like "Ahhh what the hell, why not, I'm you're Huckleberry". Just saying It's very hard to resist. But then again I don't own a $65-75k car that's slower than base A10 GT so ; )....

I guess I just don't understand the obsession having to be noticed and then projecting it at other people because someone didn't wave at you. You sound like the guy that would high-five another guy at a party for wearing the same shirt.
