Anyone know where I can buy some decent 12:1 compression pistons for a gen2 coyote?

Only ones I can find are some Mahle PowerPak Plus (http://www.modmaxracing.com/product-p/mah930049930.htm). But I don't need forged, just ones that are at least as strong as stock. Looked a decent amount but can't find any other pistons that were 12:1. Found some that are 12.5:1 but worried that it will be too much on the gen 2 if I want to give it some mild boost.

Let me know what you guys think. Just doing a rebuild and seeing if I can pickup some higher compression pistons to make more hp while N/A.

Why do you need 12:1 compression, especially if going boost? And if going boosted and you're tearing into the engine, you might as well go with forged stuff even if you don't think you need it. It's good safety margin if you ever spike cylinder pressure for some odd reason.

IMO leave it alone, or if going mild boost then just open up the ring gaps if you want it to be cheap.

My engine blew up and I was looking at rebuilding it, think I am just going to get a gen3 short block tho.

The point of 12:1 was more N/A power. But don’t want to go crazy compression ratio in case I want to add some boost later. Ofc the 12:1 won’t be the best for boost, and if I want to make big power I’ll pull the motor anyway.

Well Ford did not raise the compression to 12 without also adding DI. Do you want to add 3 gen heads and a 3 gen ECU plus custom programming? You might lose most if not all your creature comforts.

12 to 1 on a gen 2 engine and computer will pull timing making the engine less efficient.

If it is a E85 only fuel build, go for it. If you are going to run pump gas stay with 11 to 1.

It’s just gonna be a gen3 bottom end. I will be running e85 most of the time. If I need to get some octane booster I will.

I just know I won’t be able to do much boost with the 12:1.

I’ll email Lund tho and see what they think.

Lund said the 12:1 would be fine for pump gas N/A and should support about 8psi. 10-11psi on e85.

It should be more than enough for me in the near future.

I bought the motor so we will see how it turns out.

20+ psi here with 12:1 on e85.

He's a 2016, so port only.

If you are running e85, run all the compression you can. Less is never better on good fuel.

Gonna run e85 mostly but still need to be able to run 91. Shouldn’t be an issue if I go turbo and can adjust boost.

Gonna stick to 12:1 for now as I have a budget limit and the short block was cheap.

That's going to be tricky. 12:1 with 91 octane and just port injection is already pushing the limits of N/A.

Even if you turn down the boost, you'll be limited to just putting around staying out of boost. Not sure if I'd want even 6lbs of boost in that scenario, especially on OEM pistons and ring gap. At the very least try to run some sort of flex fuel when you can't get 100% E85.

Rings are gapped. And I won’t be boosting for awhile. Lund claims I can be fine to 8-9psi on 91, but we will see when I get there.

Lund said I’m good with 12:1 N/A on 91. I’m sure they can turn timing advance down if it starts to knock.

Is this a daily driver or weekend toy? That makes a difference.

12 to 1 on 91 is going to pull timing like crazy. If you have cats they probably won't last long. Especially if you add boost.

Just because you can doesn't always mean you should.

Ask Lund if he will warranty that engine for 12/ 12,000

Daily driver.

If it has to pull timing on 91 not a big deal, I can always add an octane booster if I find myself running 91 a lot. There is an e85 station 2 miles from where I live now so I’ll probably be on atleast a mix of ethanol most of the time.

Im sure Lund would respond they won’t warranty it haha. But Lund has tons of experience with different coyote setups and I’m hoping they will give me good info.
