I'm planning ahead and need to make some choices about the 10R80 and how to either make it reliable or swap it out. My car recently went 9.3@153 so with that power level the stock one is not going to last long. I have a few questions:
1. I've been looking at rebuilds (Suncoast category 2) that add clutches and add the thermal bypass. Is this something that would make the trans reliable for a few seasons at ~900whp? I don't want to have to pull the trans every season..
2. I would like to add a transbrake to the car to help with the 60 foot (Centri car problems). Using something like the 10RStager, how hard on the trans is a transbrake? Will it shorten the life a little? A lot?
3. For the cost of a rebuild (Midnight performance quoted $5500) and a converter ($2000 through Circle D) I can be done with the 10R80 and swap to a TH400 ($7000 through JPC). Is this the better choice?
Looking for any input from some of you guys that have gone fast (touching 8s would be nice). What do you recommend or what did you do that you liked/disliked.
Thanks!
