Does anyone know if this hex head reveals an open port to the inside of the transmission case? I want to add an external cooler and put the cold atf back into this hole.

In my main huge 10R80 Facts thread, there is a video of a complete tear down/rebuild of a 10R80. I’m not sure if what you’re seeking is in that vid, but possibly. Go to Page 1, Post 1 of the thread and scroll to the bottom for the vid.

I thought the 10r80 already had a transmission cooler.

Why not use the existing in/out ports that the transmission has for just that feature.

The 10R80s all come with cooler lines and cooler brick mounted in the front of the car. So you don't need to reinvent the wheel, just add a larger brick and you're done.

just adding a couple of extra bricks will not be enough for heavy track use, been there done that, and still chasing the right combo to keep her cool for a hard 20 min track day run.

So then what exactly is Bob trying to do then in terms of cooling? If adding more cooling capacity up front isn’t the answer, then the only other thing is to take the trans out and eliminate the thermal bypass thing.

Yes me too! There is a port on the back of the A10 up and left of the prop shaft. I do not know if I can dump cold fluid back there. I found the one I inquired about is a pressure testing port so I can't use that.

Even with bypass open the A10 gets too hot. Too big oil cooler and trans cooler up front dump hot air on the radiator = Car No likey!

So trying to add yet another trans cooler at the rear draining hot from pan and putting cold back at dipstick hole as last resort.
