I don't have one but from what I read on here and on other mustang sites there are a lot of balance and vibration issues with the aluminum driveshaft from the Drive Shaft Shop. I've also read that the one piece carbon fiber driveshaft from QA1 is top notch. YMMV, I just relaying what I've read.

Hey Anthony,

As previously stated, both Driveshaft Shop and QA1 make great options for these cars. Of course, a little bit depends on your budget, main use, and of course transmission.

Regardless whether you're 10 Speed Auto or 6 Speed Manual, if you plan on doing a lot of hard launches at the strip, Carbon Fiber is a solid option as it can distribute the torsional blow a driveshaft would experience on a launch more lightly on drivetrain as well as make for smoother, quicker launch and 60ft times.

If you're planning on just daily driving the car, a Driveshaft Shop Aluminum driveshaft would be plenty suffice and among one of the most popular for these cars.

Ultimately, the Carbon Fiber can be seen as the Premium option for either or.

Let me or anyone of us here at Lethal Performance know if you have any questions or would like to get one on order!

Thanks for reply!!! I cant spring for the carbon fiber DS. My car is boosted, Roush phase 2 set up. Was wondering if that extra HP makes a different in D.S. selection? Thanks Anthony

Hi, Thanks for reply!!! I would be leaning more towards the driveshaft shop, cant afford the carbon fiber unit right now. Im looking at hard launches. I am running the Roush phase 2 blower set up on my car, 750hp and 680TQ. Would the driveshaft shop be good? Please let me know, thanks. Lethal perf is great!!! I have purchased a few itmes from you guys in the past!!! Good work guys!!!

Thanks Anthony

QA1 Carbon fiber DS is great! I've running it for over 2 years with over 100 1/4 mile passes on it with a 9 second mustang. I would definitely wait till you can buy one, second best choice keep the stock DS on for now.

I've had two cars with DSS 1 piece and neither had failed with tons of abuse. DSS also backs their products very well and are a solid group of guys with some of the most knowledge I've seen personally. I would skip the carbon shaft and just stick to the aluminum. If you have any questions about their setups, feel free to shoot me a message any time. Lethalperformance.com

I can attest to a vibrating Driveshaft Shop unit in my dad's' S197 GT500. Annoying but subtle...

Can I ask what the reason is for wanting a new driveshaft? I realize that the stock 2 piece unit is heavier than pretty much any one piece shaft but usually, the minor weight reduction does not justify the spend.

I could understand if it was a durability issue but while your car is making respectable power, I don't believe the shaft is the weak link at that power level. Maybe I'm wrong.

Just curious. Maybe you have a reason I hadn't thought of and I need to order one too. :)

Thanks for the reply!!!!
Since i have upped the power level via ROUSH phase 2 blower set up 750hp & 680TQ, i dont think the stock D/S will be upto par via hard launches. What do you think the weak link in these cars are w blowers? Im an old Foxbody guy, the S550 is a new platform to me, So i'm learning..
Thanks Anthony

Can the factory driveshaft handle 6-7K rpm launches on slicks or drag radials with no problem at the 650-750 rwhp level? I would change mine out, but don’t really want a DSS shaft. I’d do it in a heartbeat if I could get a GForce unit, but they told me they no longer make driveshafts for S550. I already have a safety loop installed, so there’s a little protection in place in case of a failure.

Not a chance I’d take a risk and launch on slicks with that much power , rpm and weight. It’s not even directly mounted to the trans.
I have had a few ds in mine and settled on a dss and never had a vib or a problem at mid 700hp. Just fyi
