Morning/Afternoon all,

This is a serious conversation/question, since I'm still relatively new to Mustangs in general. To help you understand a little: In June 2017, I bought a Mustang V6, drove it for a week, and decided that I needed a V8. Roll around early July, I upgraded to a 5.0 (not GT, and simply a base model). Drove that for two months...

Now, understand, I came from a fully loaded Ford Escape, 2016. And, a few simple things were missing, like Sync 3.0, Sirius, GPS and reverse sensor (it had a camera). So, after a bit of research, I now have a 2017 Mustang GT Premium, Blacked Out...!

Alas, a shame I had to go through all that to learn...!
So, I'm curious, besides:
- cost
- petrol milage

...why do some buy an Ecoboost Mustang vs. a standard Mustang or a GT model?

Thanks in advance
Ivan

Ecoboost is lighter (mostly up front) and consequently handles better (less push). It can be modified (with appropriate cooling) to be very fast, too. Most get it because it's factory quick with great gas mileage and you can get good interior features, too.

While the V6 in the new Mustangs is a good engine overall, the cars come with the worst possible brake package and limited interior options. I drove a friend's V6 and just had to look over at him and say, I would never have bought this. It stopped like a semi.

The GT is the bread and butter. Gas mileage blows but its an NA engine and proven to be reliable despite even supercharging it (to a degree). Weak points become the transmission and half shafts (specifically speaking of M/Ts). The auto is fine, albeit slow to shift gears - certainly is no DSG. GT is heavier up front and pushes (understeers).

I owned a new '17 EB for 3 months and traded it for a new GT PP and haven't looked back. And I'm an adult, not a boy-racer. Night and day difference between them. As you know from shopping, there are some great deals on '17s to be had now. I don't think you'll regret buying a GT and I think it will be worth more,percentage-wise,than an EB when you want to trade or sell it down the road.
I've only done exhaust, tint, wheel locks and air filter. The car is plenty fast for me as-is.

It's all about the money for 99% of the population... period.

The way to know this is....if the EB and Coyote were priced identically, which would the 99% choose.

I think most would opt for a Coyote, like most would choose the Voodoo over the Coyote if they were identically priced.

Mostly comes down to cost, and some people don't care for V8 just the options you can equip it with. Ecoboost is a fine car, it sells surprisingly well. I enjoyed mine but always had a nagging fear of a breakdown. When I bought my Ecoboost premium in 2016 I couldn't find a GT similarly equipped in my area unless I paid almost $10k more, it wasn't until July of this year I managed to find a 5.0 priced around where the EB was since they're clearing them for the 18's.

Ecoboost premium no regrets except no rumble:) if Ford could get a 4cyl to sound more like a V8 that would be icing on the cake! love my Ecoboost handles great plenty of power and I love talking to people at car shows and tell them what this little 4cyl.can do especially the V8 guys. My car looks great, get great compliments everywhere I go.

+1 Have a boost premium in Guard. MBRP exhaust. Get tons of compliments on the car because it's the best modern body style Ford has made, the color is rare and beautiful, and people like the sound of the car with the MBRP on it (and the blow off sound).

Cost is a factor, sure, but so is having something different. All the builds on here are GTs except Josh's ecoboost and a few others. Building our cars to the way we like them is like an extension of our self. It's what we like to do and we all have different tastes. Oh yeah, I also needed something decent on gas. My Jeep gets like 12 mpg :D.

I might eventually end up with a V8 whether it be in a Camaro, Mustang, or something else, but we are talking 5 years or more down the road.

I've wrenched on and built a ton of fast cars. Most were daily drivers, some that shouldn't have been :D

I bought a V6 '17 because of several factors:

- 6 speed manual (Manual transmission was a requirement)
- Ridiculous deal with '18's on the lot and the V6 not coming back
- I know GT's are fast stock. Fast enough that I know I would mod it and I know stuff would start breaking. Been down that road before. I figure the V6 with 300HP is plenty for DD duty - and when I decide to mod it and hit the 1/4 mile track now and again, there's likely a little more wiggle room before I start breaking stuff....

My next project will be a full on frame off of something from the 60's with modern drivetrain / suspension / brakes.

You could say the same thing about the GT and Shelby GT350.

If it wasn't about money I wouldn't have bothered with a Mustang at all. I would be driving a Ferrari or a Lamborghini.

I'd still be driving a Mustang probably 6 or 7 of them but a Mustang :)
