Hey everyone, new here and have a question! I just purchased a 2017 GT PP three days ago and am having a bit of an issue. I keep having a horrible time with clutch placement when I shift into second gear. Ive tried it at low RPMs, higher RPMs ect and every time, the car is jerky and reacts odd to shifting into second gear.

Ive driven manuals a while, primarily Jeeps and a Miata so I understand how the clutch works, how to use it ect but I am just having a horrible time getting second gear down. I can rev match and drop into second no issues but its the first to second gear transition thats getting me.

Would removing the clutch assist spring be any benefit to my issues? I do find it rather hard to feel the clutch engage.

Try pre gas and slow in the clutch pedal?

This is something that I will be trying tomorrow but do not want that to be the end all to my issue. Feel that it would cause premature wear doing that constantly in city driving.

Took me a while to get used to the clutch as well. Having never owned a slushbox, im very adept at the clutch pedal. Perhaps your seating position is not optimal. I played around with mine and dont have any issues after getting it right.

I thought the same when I got my car, the clutch has no feel to it. You will get smoother in time but when wearing a new pair of shoes it'll be like starting all over again. However when banging through the gears and shifting at redline she's as smooth as can be!:headbang:

I have the same issue. Never had such problems shifting a car until this Mustang. If you drive like a maniac though the trans works great!

Trans fluid BG or amsoil and steeda spring. Later short shifter. You will be happy.

Changing to the steeda clutch spring fixed this issue for me.

Turns out my foot was leaving the pedal on the way up and the heavy assist was masking the true engagement point. The friction zone was more like a light switch.

I also had issues going into 2nd smoothly. The Steeda clutch spring helped alo, you can feel the friction alot better.

1-2 gears are close together and at lower speeds with the 3.73's can damn near feel like the same gear IMO. Are you in normal drive mode or have you tried it in sport? I feel in sport mode the slight improvement in throttle response helps as the lag seems to make the your timing slightly off. Some people may not think it's good for the clutch but I do a lot of 2nd gear starts unless I'm on an incline. I have the stock clutch spring still and don't see what all the fuss is about the engagement but you are going to have to learn to work this clutch more on where the clutch is in the travel and less on when you feel it in the pedal.

Practice is really the best option IMO. And with 3.73s in a GT, you might just do some skip shifting if you aren't hurrying. Just start in 2nd, shift to 4th, or 1-3 if you prefer. Really with steep rear gears they are super close together and you don't need all of them unless you are at the track.

I wouldn't start in 1st gear. I feel like that isn't good for drive train. I could be wrong Though? Also curious if skipping gears has any downfalls?

Take the helper spring out of the clutch pedal.
