I combined mods from two different members on here to reduce IAT's, and it worked. In the morning temp difference was as low as 1 degree from outside temps, in the afternoon got as low as 3 degrees, and the IAT's didn't sky rocket while at a light or in traffic. I used some pipe heat shielding for the inside of the box and a Lexan polycarbonate sheet for the cover. Don't know if it will improve performance at all nor will I do any testing to confirm any performance gains.

Interesting. Seen my stock intake with IATs up to almost 200 when idling for a while in 70 degree weather after a long drive. Heat soak is a bitch.

Not sure how a stock box could be shielded from the heat.

The heat comes from the fans blowing into the open top, that's why as soon as you move the iat goes back down close to ambient.

I bet if you just put a lid over it 99% of the idle heat soak will go away.

I didn't glue it, used some weather stripping around the inner diameter of the lid, and that just squeezes down onto the strip of the JLT box to hold it in.

Sweet I did the same a while back minus the heat shield inside the box, great idea by the way. It has been working for me with just the lid, I never get more than 4 degrees above ambient. Great lil cheap mod that works. Nice to see another give it a shot. Nice work!

Thanks! I was hoping the original person who though of this mod will chime in here.

I also did the top for my JLT. I also put weatherstrip on the top of it so when the hood is shut it pushes down on the weatherstrip and makes sure my homemade top is secure and snug. In addition to that, I used weatherstripping around all the openings that air can get into the filter box from the engine as best as I could.
I like your pipe heat shielding idea and I will be doing that as well.

The heat soak is real with my JLT intake.

There has to be some power benefit from this due to actual "cold air" being drawn in.

Great idea, OP -- thanks for sharing!

you might check for water building up in the rain or check it at a car wash.
