The smoke is from the PCV set up on this motor. Our car started doing it shortly after I installed our downpipe. I can tell you it is not from the turbos and it is not like the Mazdaspeed issues.

Once the car starts smoking if you rev it and hold it at 1500 for 10 seconds it will clear up. At least ours would.

I have never seen the smoke while driving or on the dyno. While the new forged motor is getting ready to go in this week I am going to further investigate this.

Hey mbreinin I know this side steps the point of the thread but did you want to get rid of the car?
Various reasons. #1 being it was really not fast enough for me. It is one of those love hate deals. I love the car and I am trying to convince myself that at 45, I can enjoy the car as a gentleman's hot-rod. However, despite the fact that I am 45, I really think about cars like a 16 year old. Everything I own has to have a power to weight ratio of about 3:1. I am trying, really, really hard with this car. The nice stereo, the heated and cooled seats, the sync and the nav...the great chassis and transmission. However, every time I drive it, I think of how great it would be had I bought another Coyote and just done the Hellion TT kit. LOL.

Have a peep at the inlet of your turbo, and the outlet of your turbo and let us know what you find. I'm curious if there is any trace of oil pre-turbo, unfortunately our car didn't do this so our turbo is bone dry.

I will say that people have reported the same issue and they have catch can's installed. I personally think this car needs more PCV venting that what it has. Maybe some drilling and tapping of the valve cover is in order...

I don't get smoke while driving unless I open it up but I know that's normal my issue is the whole smoke screen while idling at a light or drive thru..well I hope someone can shed some light on why it's doing it & what the fix will be:frusty:

Adam,

I did when I tore it down. My inlet pipes, charge pipes, and down pipe were dry. It was definitely not the turbo. I am certain is the stock PVC system.

I'm going to send you a tune file, report back if it helps with your "smoke screen" ;).

I was talking about the turbine side, not compressor side.

Mike,

If you hold out a little longer I think you will be happy in the end. I know we will see cars in the 10's this summer. I can tell you that our car at 29.7 psi was a blast. This little motor is good we just need the aftermarket to catch up with it and I know all the companies are trying as fast as they can.

Yeah, a built shortblock would certainly enable me to pour the coals to it.

Mike
Mike I'm 100% in same boat as you, I like to do some road course and auto x so for me the handling does off set things, I'll be happy with 11:90s which I think the car will do, I do miss my 10sec street car from time to time though :-)

I honestly do not think you will see these cars in the 10's on a stock shortblock unless it is a one pass glory run and then the car is returned to normal "safe" tune levels. I have given serious thought to seeing what the car could do with other, non-tune, mods...like a set of 3.73 gears, a better converter, better intercooler. However, I don't trust the engine and it is not just due to your experience.

My car will start to smoke within 2 minutes of a cold start--and continues throughout the drive. It smells like a 2 stoke motorcycle.

You stated this with confidence, but it doesn't sound like the same deal as I am having. When you said you never have the problem while driving--does that mean if you drive around, then idle for a few minutes it won't happen?
