So, it's nice and icy on my driveway - next week we'll get into the 50s and most of the ice will probably be gone. I just removed the snow tires and put on the all-seasons that came with the car.

I figure this is the perfect time to test out line lock. So I tried to activate it on my driveway and got a message something like "line lock not available, see owner's manual".

Just based on that, any ideas what I'm missing? I will get out the manual and read it...if I have to. :D

I'm guessing you have to be in track mode with traction control turned off. Haven't tried it myself yet but I would assume its tied in with track mode.

Ahh, makes sense. I will give it a shot turning off the traction control.

Thanks!

Nah, doesn't require track mode or traction control disabled. Needs to be on a level surface at normal operating temp, in my experience.

I tried it with advancetrac off and on and neither makes a difference. I tried it a few times. I read the manual which says nothing about advancetrac, so I don't think that matters. I can't see any reason why it isn't working.

Any other thoughts? I will go to the dealer if need be.

This may or may not help, see the below video where someone got that exact message if they released the brake too quickly after it says Press OK. Make sure you are holding the brake pedal long enough where you actually hear the electric motor "lock" the line, then you should see the countdown start.

Dumb question but you don't have a V6 do you?

I've seen similar messages after snow is on the ground the vehicle may know that you are on a low traction surface and not allow it to engage. I tried it in December before snow and had no issue so this is why I was led to this conclusion. Let us know if you figure out how to get it to activate.

Temps shouldnt matter, i used it the day i picked my car up! It was also about 28 degrees that day. Worked on the first try, just make sure you are holding the break for the correct length.

This is what I was doing wrong. Not holding the brake fully down THROUGH the last time I hit ok. It isn't enough to hold the brake until it says it's ready. Keep holding it when the timer appears and when the lock occurs you will feel some rumbling through the brake pedal and then the timer starts and you are good to go.

I also found out it will only let you do it a couple times in a row. :D

Ford probably assumed I would be using it on pavement and it would be hard on the car. :)

Pretty fun but I did dig down through the ice a little bit one time when I spun too long before releasing. I had to back up because the tires wouldn't grip enough to move the car forward.

Fun stuff! Thanks Ford! :ford:

Here I am feeling all guilty about leaving work @ 74deg with the windows down while seeing you folks still in snow...

I wish I had means of trying out line lock guilt free on some ice without traveling like 200 miles...

I'm too cheap to do it on pavement with these fresh tires.

Yeah I don't blame you. I have nearly 5,000 miles on my car but the Pirellis still have all the tiny rubber bumps on them. I took the tires off right after I drove the car home from the dealership and I've been running the Blizzaks since then.

I wouldn't try the line lock with the Blizzaks, even on ice.
