I see people ask about upgrading intercoolers a little bit, so here's some pics from a recent datalog that I recorded. I have three screenshots. The first being the charge air temps (CATs) at the beginning of the pull, the second being the CATs in the middle of the pull (and at the lowest maintained temperature drop point during the pull), and the third being the CATs at the end of the pull.

The ambient temperature outside during this pull was 77°. The intercooler wasn't anywhere near cold or the engine freshly started. This was after a 45 minute drive on the interstate at 70+ mph speeds and about 35-40 minutes of cruising/driving around downtown (around 30-40 mph speeds). I could go make pulls on a cold intercooler that'd look even better, but this gives an actual representation of how it would perform in the real world in one of my driving scenarios.

As you can see, the Levels Performance intercooler performs very well. I constantly brag on it to people, but I wanted to share some actual data instead of just throwing my opinion out there. When you compare the price and level of performance you get, you can't beat it.

Update #1:

Just for info, this is the original (Street) design that Nik produced. He now has upgraded versions of the Street and Race which should perform even better.

Update #2:

The size for the updated Levels Street FMIC is 20"x14"X3.5". The size of the new Levels Race FMIC is 20"x17"x3.5".

Update #3:

Nik has added cast endtanks to the new upgrade Street core as well. They look and should perform awesome! It's just another feature to make the Levels FMIC stand ahead of the rest, especially at this price point! See below for pics of the new end tanks!

Does anyone know the core size of the new street and race intercooler from Level's. I believe their website only lists dimensions of the old style street core.

If you go onto Level's website, I believe there is a picture of the race version installed the car - it is huge! Does anyone expect a large pressure drop and additional 'lag' with this unit of it was used with a stock turbo? Also, any ill effects from covering most of the radiator?

I used to drive MR2's and remember the guys with large trunk mount intercoolers would encounter pressure drop and lag with the huge cores.

I've had my Levels IC for a month and can't seem to find the time to put it on. Hopefully in a week or two.

Thanks Juben for all your input on the threads. You as well as others help me decide the right IC for me. Now with the data you've provided, I know I have the right one.

Mine measures, 19w x 14h x 3.5d.

I sent Nik a message, so I'll let you know the sizes when he lets me know. Pressure drop and lag can be addressed with the design of the core and endtanks. Nik always designs his intercoolers to mitigate pressure drop, but we could always test it. If someone gets a new Street core, we could get them to record a log(s) on the stock unit and then on the updated Street model to compare. If anyone is interested, PM me and we'll discuss what you'd need to log.

Waiting on mine to ship. Very excited!
Don't forget to float us some sweet pics! :headbang:

I'd like to know the difference between the street and race. Im thinking of changing my mishimoto to something more substantial and looking at the levels fmic.

I actually did notice a little bit of lag on the lower end of the RPM range. I'll be updating my tune soon, so I'll be doing some logging for Adam. I'd be happy to share those logs with anyone who would like to see them. I'm sure I have some old logs somewhere that would provide the pre-install data.

I just uploaded mine to compare my MMR intercooler here is what I had:
82 degrees outside
2800 RPM - 98 (+16)
5300 RPM - 91 (+9)
6100 RPM - 94 (+12)

few degrees difference for sure in the upper range

If it's a stock tune yes. The grill shutters stay basically closed or almost completely closed when you are moving and not hard on the throttle.
