Has anyone repainted a strut tower brace? I'm looking for a rattle can color match. I have a black one, but much prefer the silver color. ChatGPT suggested a wheel paint, Dupli-Color Silver Wheel Coating (HWP101 ), but the finish was very rough, so I've stripped that and I have it sitting in primer now. I'd love to get a smooth, glossy finish that matches the OEM silver like the MACH 1 and a few other models have.

If you're going to use paint, I'd use something high temperature, like engine or caliper paint.

I'd also consider powder coating. Huge arrays of colors. You can select a gloss level you like. Rugged.

I've primed it in hi-temp primer and am considering using the same red I used on my calipers...

You can get a smoother finish (perhaps with no sanding even) by using flat paint and then top-coat with clear gloss. Be patient by using thin coats of the flat. The gloss is still tricky to apply because too thin is not smooth and too thick either runs are dries uneven.

Powder coat would be pricier but a turn-key good result. Make sure the vendor shows you good samples and offers a satisfaction guarantee.

I'd say even if you rattle can it, definitely get a quality clear gloss. I did it on my vents, and they look much nicer now.

A high quality 2K clear is what I'm getting at. It really improves the depth of color. GTP is right, the gloss is real tricky to get the right thickness, and I didn't get it perfect on the first vent, but the second and third look a ton better.
