Have you heard of or experienced a leak out of the top of your 10R80? Thank you.

I think my warranty replaced transmission has been leaking since day one, out of the top of the transmission. 2022 Mach 1, replaced in 2/2025. The only thing I can think of is, there’s some type of pressure relief valve up there that it is leaking. I filled the transmission to 4 1/2 on the baby, hand melting, dipstick! Ford recommends to fill between four and five. I was hoping that it would eventually settle out stop leaking, and yet the transmission would have enough fluid in it. But I am having my doubts now.

Have any of you experienced this type of leak and if so, what did you find the cause to be? Thank you.

Excess info to follow. Ignore if rushed:
Of course the Ourisman Ford dealer blames it on my much upgraded transmission pan. My PPE transmission pan and its sealing, and magnetic drain plug is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do.

The last time they had my car, I don’t think they ever even touched it other than to park it for a week. And the reason I say this is due to they never even cleaned the undercarriage car so that they could attempt to find the leak /s. Thank you very much.

I'm not familiar with the 10R80 vent system but I'd start there?

I have had it blow out of the top valve when it was over filled. It'll also shift odd in the higher gears.... it would land on the exhaust and just burn off.. causing a bit of a smoke cloud behind me.

Was motor running when you checked level?

I’ve also heard if over filled it will come out the vent, although I don’t know what the vent is. Is the car being run hard when this happens? Leak whenever driven? Transmission temp normal?

Yes we run it up to temp.

Yes after the last 5k drain and fill, it has been off track driving.

Transmission will tend to run hot when over filled.. it'll burp out fluid and go back down... I had this experience driving 300 miles to a track day.. It was bad way to learn how to not fill a transmission.. We have since then, done it the correct way...

One day one of track weekend July 4th, a couple drivers reported my car smoking from underneath. It has never done that before. I knew I overfilled my oil by 1 quart. But no changes to my A10 trans, which has been on track many times since I added a second OEM cooler.

No smoke experienced on day two. Remains a mystery.

EDIT: @gone_n_60 had a terrible A10 on-track smoke issue. I think fluid was coming out of the top vent. Not sure of the fix.

My F150 did this too. (fluid coming out of the vent tube) I checked the fluid level many times and confirmed it was correct. Just another one of the fantastic attributes of the craptastic 10R80

😂 so true!
Unfortunately, I’ve spent days trying to clean the transmission fluid off my new driveway and unfortunately, I think it’s stainedible forever. I used Dawn, I used corn flour and I used some other degreasers. The problem is with today’s seemingly shitty asphalt copy. Whatever the material they’re using now. I think when I remove the oil I’m also removing the acrylic or whatever it is used to make and seal the driveway.

A little bit of muriatic acid with water will take it right off. Don’t use straight muriatic acid.
