So I bought a used 2018 mustang gt premium and I noticed it actually came with the active exhaust as I can see in my cluster settings , but it also has a roush aftermarket exhaust and the active exhaust doesn’t work . I get errors like exhaust mode not selected.

so basically what do I need to reinstall the active exhaust & get it working besides the actual oem muffler, I’m sure they probably took the harnesses out aswell and where can I get this done

Well you've got a couple options. Id check under the car and see if the actuators are still there. if they aren't check to see if the harness with the plugs for them are still there.

If the actuators aren't there then you'll need to buy those. I think they are around 180$ used each.

You don't necessarily need the stock mufflers, as some after market company's just sell the active exhaust mufflers without the whole catback. Or you could buy a new catback system, or see if you can find some used roush active or stock active.

Or if you aren't concerned about having active exhaust you can remove it with forscan.

I’ll check to be sure

So if I get an aftermarket active exhaust setup will those come with the actuators installed and the harnesses? Or will I still have to buy those separate since I most likely don’t have either

Which after-market exhaust set-ups have actuators installed, and come with the harness, are you considering?

I would imagine they would come with good instruction PDFs that are available on-line, that you can browse before buying.

You would have to buy the jumper for each side and the actuators for each side.

It also depends on what you wanna spend to get back to active mufflers.

The only one I know of is the Ford Performance Mach 1 kit. Comes with the Mach 1 mufflers, actuators and rear diffuser. It doesn’t come with the wire harnesses

Borla, Corsa, etc. require you to swap over the existing actuators

I’ll most likely go back to oem axle backs

To be clear, most if not all the aftermarket active exhausts use the OEM actuators. Most of them just don’t come with the actuators, you have to transfer your existing actuators over (or get new ones if they’re damaged or missing). The Mach 1 upgrade kit comes with the actuators already installed on the mufflers

And that makes the MACH 1 OEM option the cheapest and easiest rather than buying an after market setup and then buying the actuators etc. It is a full kit with everything for 1700 bucks. Just know that when it is delivered, it comes on a pallet and is a ground delivery you have to sign for. LMR is about the cheapest I have seen. CJPony is about ~50 bucks more

The kit includes:
- Mach-1 Mufflers with Quad Exhaust Tips
- Mach-1 Rear Lower Valance
- Mach-1 Rear Diffuser
- Mach-1 Rear Mud Flaps
- All Necessary Hardware

On that used oem mustang site someone mentioned I found a used pair of oem valves exhaust axle backs by itself

so to be clear if I went this route I would need 2 actuators, 2 jumpers (JR3Z-14A411-h) & 2 of these (JR3Z-14A411-j)

here’s the link to everything except the actuators if someone cares to look over it
