There is no global oil supply shortage here in the US. We have more oil and gas than we've ever had. There may be shortages in other foreign countries that rely on their oil from the Gulf States. As such, foreign made automotive oils may become in short supply. But we supply most of our own oil in this country. The problem is the price is tied to the global market. If not, we would say to everyone else, you're on your own. We don't need your foreign oil.

Either way, posting something like that all over the internet will get people to go and buy it up. It could even be a ploy to make that happen.

My subscription for 15 qts every 3 months from Amazon just got pushed back bc they ran out. Found Walmart has it cheaper anyways, and stock

I'm already supplied for the rest of the year, just because I like to have a year supply on hand for all the equipment.

This is the same thing that causes runs on gas stations and the toilet paper, bottled water, and milk aisles at grocery stores, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
It’s probably what they want, then they can charge more because low supply

I can't forget the gas shortages in the late 70's.

By coincidence, I have two vehicles coming due in the next month or two.

Placed order this morning for the following: PUP 5W-30, 2, 5-Qt. jugs.

Napa: $33.99 ea. Home delivery unavailable. I did not attempt to buy in store.

O'Reilly: $37.99 ea. Purchased two. Free delivery.

Advanced Auto: $43.99 ea.

Walmart: Initially attempted to purchase through them. Primary supplier out. An alternative supplier did have available, for a price of $50.99 a jug.

-----------------------------------------------

Placed order this morning for the following: PUP 0W-20, 6 quarts.

WalMart: One, 5-Qt jug for $26.95. One, 1-Qt bottle for $8.95. Free Delivery.

-----------------------------------------------

With First Brands bankrupt and no longer producing filters, and the shelves typically stripped of oil after the weekend, the local WalMart Service Area is lookin' pretty sad.

Edit,

I haven't read anything of tires, but I'd expect to see impacts here as well.

The petroleum industry has never let a good crisis go to waste. 😒

Don't our Mustangs use fully synthetic oil?
But if the price goes up on petroleum lubricants, it stands to reason that all other lubricants will follow.

Blend is allowed and the minimum. I think most of us prefer Synthetic. But even synthetics have caveats. It depends on who makes it, how they make it and what they use for their base stocks.

https://www.machinerylubrication.com/Read/29113/base-oil-groups

https://www.exxonmobil.com/en/basestocks/faq-basics

From the Exxon site: "There is no generally accepted definition of a synthetic base stock, or synthetic base oil. In the U.S., the government considers “synthetic” to be a marketing term characterizing the formulated lubricant while in Germany, synthetic base stocks are defined by law to be polyalphaolefins or esters. Many oil marketers consider lubricants formulated with significant concentrations of Group IV and/or Group III base stocks as synthetic. Most Group III base stocks are refined from crude oil streams."

While it’s true we produce lots of oil here, the grade of it and what’s inside of it is very much different than what comes from the North Sea, Brent Crude and what comes from the Middle East. Each type of crude is better suited for gas, diesel, plastics and other applications than others. West Texas intermediate called WTI and what comes from the Marcellus shale in WV seems to be good for plastic and other applications. In fact our refineries are more able to process the crude from the Middle East than our own crude, into gas, kerosene and diesel. So it’s a complicated thing.
