I was pretty disturbed to read this link, and noticed on Ebay, when I was shopping for Castrol GTX,.........that most of the vendors selling Castrol GTX full synthetic oil, are....seemingly less than reputable locations/names. Some vendor on 1st page are Philipines, China, Vietnam locations.
Motorcraft oil filters are being knocked off by china and even Mobil one oil has counterfeit problems.

Pennzoil claims total US production..........

Clearly that article is also a knock off. The amount of gramatical errors in 5 seconds of skimming proves that either AI wrote it, or a Chinese National

I've bought from sellers "in China" that just drop ship stuff from USA warehouses.

not that there isn't counterfeit oil out there (or any other product on eBay/Amazon)

Not that a product (oil or oil filter in this case) is 100% guaranteed to be legit, but I found that large reputable companies with something to lose, are the best opportunity to get legit product. Companies like eBay and Amazon have a large conglomeration of providers which neither can proactively track with full success. They rely a lot on us as consumers to report such suspected issues, post-purchase. That said, I'm sure on the other hand that a LOT of products they sell are legit.

Personally, I rely on a Ford dealer, a place like Costco, or a reputable auto supply chain who I believe would be more apt to keep a handle on their supply chain. But then again, for us the consumer, there's nothing 100% guaranteed.

As it has been reported before, even OEM's will source their product through 3rd parties in countries we may deem illegitimate. Because the supply chain is so dynamic, today's best source may not be it tomorrow. We just need to keep "our ear to the ground", investigate, and share data with each other as we learn new facts.

For my s550, I personally dont order any "oem" car parts from Amazon + ebay. Received a motorcraft oil filter once and looked straight knockoff so I threw it away and went to my local autozone.

I go to Walmart for my oil(penzzoil)
Just bought spark plugs, oil drain plug from LMR. Dealer for any random bolts I may need.

Your first clue should have been eBay...but oil from a reputable retailer.
