Tyler can you make a longer video and go through some more menu options? Specifically looking for places where the software is buggy or has random out-of-place chinese characters. Again I have to say that it looks really good for only $300, not much to lose to try out one of these units.

I'll try and make one soon I pretty much went thru everything. This unit has no buggy software at all... My ford touch can't hold a candle to how quick this unit is and how damn good the navigation app is.. I've been using the navigation app while going to work and back just to check it out and it's extremely up to day and even has all the local restaurants and gas stations and what not..

I made a turn opposite of what the nav told me to go on my way home tonight and it updated to a secondary route to get home within a mili second of making that turn.. I'm more then impressed for the money spent here...

The only other spot where I found Chinese characters is on the sync menu it will say usb 1 then under it will be some Chinese characters.. Then usb2 and followed by the same etc..

I went back and forth with tomtop for over a month about the chinese sync but they could never change it or give me any info at all. I attempted to find out who made the unit but never had any luck with that either.

Interesting! I assumed the software was newer because the radio text seemed to be better aligned then previous systems I have seen.

Ah, I see. On the tomtop website it says it does come with an english instruction manual. Looking back at your previous post in this thread it sounds like you didn't get any instructions? Did you install it in your car before selling? Were you able to figure out the wire pigtails? Thanks.

The wire pigtails are not used. I assume they may be for testing purposes. I did install the unit. It is a direct plug and play. The only wire that I used from the pigtails was for the front mounted camera which provided power to it.

Damn, that thing seems to answer many of my complaints. And look, options! So many menus and buttons to press!

Also weird thing about the Taobao one from many pages ago, I'm pretty certain it can't really keep time between on-off cycles on its own very well, if at all. It appears to somehow be syncing to my phone's clock every time I start it. This is good and bad--good because the original car would run slow and always need to be adjusted (I felt, anyway.) Bad because, well, it can't keep the time AT ALL on its own. Also annoying, you cannot use it at all unless you're in accessory mode, whereas the stock radio could be powered on independently of the 10-minute grace period. I always sit in the car for at least 10-20 minutes waiting for the train in the morning, so it is annoying having to press the start button, since push-button start has no accessory mode (per se.)

At this point I'm just going to sit tight and wait for the aftermarket to actually come to the states proper. The performance of the unit in the video up there looked pretty impressive. I especially like how Sync media is kept in the media area. Now someone just needs to iron out all of the tiny bugs and quirks, regionalize it, and I'll be ready to break a few more of those dash panel clips again to swap out once more...

edit: Does the brightness control actually work? Like, in Auto mode does it pick up on the vehicle's ambient light sensor and adjust accordingly?

Nice. Good to know that an aftermarket unit can actually get that right. For reference, the Taobao unit has a brightness setting, one of which is 'Auto,' but none of the settings actually affect the screen brightness. The only thing I can do to know that there IS brightness control is pressing the power button while the car is running (the brightness will make it fade out and in, for off and on.)

Yeah, I've watched your entire video Lein and while the taobao and tomtop systems are extremely similar in many respects, there do appear to be differences in the UI and software. Since I don't have either unit and am only basing it off videos its hard to tell which UI is "better".

Regarding accessory mode, my car won't start but goes into accessory mode if I hit the button without foot on the brake. Idk if its different for your GT PP.

I think doing that in the manual car more of less puts it in 'run' mode. The fuel pump will fire up. I don't think my 2011 V6 manual did that when putting the key in ACC mode. Either way, I'm just being nit-picky.

As for the differences, I was more interested in the Taobao kit's flush-mounted factory appearance. Of course, seeing the software in this other unit (save for the major drawback of the chinese-only Sync, whereas the Taobao unit at least gives you UK-English,) it makes me second-guess.

I'll be very curious to see what becomes of that Rosen system (the one pictured at SEMA, which looked exactly like the flush Taobao kit, minus the toggle-like switches) and what it has software-wise. The stuff they put out for the 05-09 and 11-14 Mustangs all looked very custom-looking (as in they did not try to model it off of the OEM system,) save for the iGo Primo software which is basically exactly like what's on our current new systems as it's an off-the-shelf solution for GPS. Of course, that all could have been ordered under the instruction of American Muscle, to help push the 'Raxiom' fake-brand.

Unfortunately the MSRP for that unit displayed at SEMA was $1200, which I think is kind of ridiculous. At that price point it's just better to go with the cheaper and totally OEM factory MFT conversion. I hope they either lower the price when it actually goes on sale, or add a ton of features that are otherwise unavailable. Since the tomtop and taobao units are available at around 1/2-1/4 of the price and basically have the same hardware, so if all they end up doing is some software/language bug fixes, I don't think it justifies the huge additional markup.
