'stang vs BMW

I recently went into my "next fun car" with a new M4 in mind. Drove a lot of them, but then decided to try the new Mustang. Was VERY impressed, at half the price. Ended up buying a loaded '15 GT convt, prem with 6mt. I have not been disappointed. As a point of reference vs BMW's, I've owned 3 prior m3's, including a Lime Rock Park Edition, two Z8's, a Z4, M5 and 4.8iS X5.
Even now I still have a BMW in my stable, but it's a whole different animal. A '15 i8; protonic blue with PI premium interior.
In any case, my 'stang has been flawless, great panel fits and fun to drive. I only added a few things; 30% tint, hood gas struts and an MBRP Street cat-back exhaust, which really wakes it up in all six gears, without drone. I think you'll be pleased if you find or order a good Mustang. Or....step up to a GT350, if you can find one near msrp and available!

I have had my F30 over a year and a half. Zero issues. My sisters BMW (one of my old ones) is still going strong with over 108K miles and zero issues and minimal repairs.

I don't know if I could ever trade my F30 for my stang but I'm sure pleased to have both. The 6AT in the stang while a good automatic is no where near the 8AT in the F30s. That alone is a big knock against the stang. Practicality obviously the BMW can't be beat. Everything else I'd say the S550 goes toe for toe with the much more expensive bimmer and even surpassing it in some regards. That is the best compliment I can give this car.

If I had a BMW with zero issues, and prefered Auto I would just stay with the BMW and drive it until it requires a lot of repair. The Mustang has a lot more motor but I doubt you will appreciate the difference unless you go Manual. Personally I prefer a sedan, but I couldn't get V8 / manual in a sedan for a reasonable price.

the abs module just went out in my mom's 07 bmw 335i... complete abs failure... and $2800 later...redic. I keep telling her she needs to dump it and get an ecoboost pp. She's going to end up putting more money into maintaining that bmw that has 115k miles on it than it's worth but she's hard headed. it's only worth like 8k trade in now as it is but she's hung up on germans ever since she got an sl500 and then a bmw. she's had 3 3000gt's and a 350zx before those but she's stuck on german now. the repair bills are just nuts.

$2800? :eyebulge:
wow, I checked repairpal, and this is a $600 repair on a Mustang:
ABS Control Module Replacement for 2015 Ford Mustang GT

I am not sure I believe these forum anecdotes, "my BMW has 100k miles and not a single problem". There is a reason the German cars fall off the depreciation cliff. The secondary market is afraid of them.

Posts like these make you sound like an idiot. When people say Ford, what do they think? Found on Road Dead? Fixed or Repaired Daily?

Obviously a BMW will cost more to maintain than a Ford. Obviously a car that costs 60K+ will have a high depreciation curve. But don't tell me Fords don't either.

Khyber - I'm sorry but the N54 335Is are absolutely great cars and much quicker than EB Mustangs. I've had one. But they are notoriously expensive to maintain. I got rid of mine before it started to cost major money.

My 2008 328I (which my sister has) has had the following repairs done to it in 107K miles: 6 ignition coils, 6 spark plugs. The front headlamp has a burnt bulb. I am budgeting for a water pump soon. That's it. Everything else has been oil changes, brake fluid changes, and a tire change. I know because I owned the car till 85K.

Either way, BMWs especially turbocharged ones can be pricey to own out of warranty for sure. A tried and true 5.0 is more reliable than a turbocharged bmw-6. But they usually have common failure points that can be avoided with proper maintenance.

That's the thing. Mine is nearing 94K in miles (although only driven 10K of them sadly enough) and while the car has been amazing, I am afraid of repair bills. my old '05 525i had nearly 150K and it stayed perfect without any major repairs but then I had oil leaks, suspension issues, and other stuff. Granted nothing major, but it still adds up. On the other hand, my family have also owned quite a few bmw's that were high mileage and had nothing major go wrong. Guess it really depends on how well you take care of it and just plain old luck.

I want to stick with an auto as I've only driven a manual a couple times and being stuck in traffic is by far the most annoying thing ever with a manual for me.

Really it depends what you are trying to do with the car. German cars usually win the status awards, and quite often they simply look better. Sometimes better engineering, but they are usually over-engineered, and I don't want to pay for over-engineering.

My local BMW dealer is selling nearly 99% of its BMW's with slushboxes. Benz, 99.9%. That tells me the market for such cars is top heavy with status seekers.

$80k (dealer list price) gets you an M4, with a 425-hp twin-turbo inline six-cylinder and a slushbox, and down the line maintenance and repair running triple that of a Ford.

$30-36k gets you a Mustang GT with 435hp of NA 5.0 with a choice of manual or Auto with a large percentage of buyers choosing manual. And with much cheaper maintenance and repair, the Ford can be thrashed and/or driven out to 250k miles without fear.

I don't think Mercedes makes a new car with a manual transmission...You can also get the M3/M4/M5/M6 in a manual or DCT. All new BMW's include in the cost first 4 years of maintenance. Repairs on German cars tend to be a bit more than Ford, but you're also getting a luxury car/status symbol. Two different camps. I'm done with German cars for now - when they run without problems, they're purely awesome. When it comes to maintenance or repairs, your wallet can hurt.

I know the BMW's can be had with Manuals but I was just pointing out what my dealership is selling, which I assume is fairly close to what people want, at least around here.

To be fair, it's likely the Mustang's awesome V8 engine is riding the coattails of the F150, which is #1 selling vehicle, which really helps to drop costs.

And Europe really squeezes its car manufacturers on engine displacement and fuel economy, as well as $/Liter. So BMW and Benz are much more interested in 4 & 6 cylinders.

So speaking of maintenance and stuff, I will hopefully be getting a CPO 2015, but are there any problems that are common to the mustangs to look out for? For example, I know the N54 engine had its fair share of problems with the HPFP.

chaudhrysn I switched over from a fully loaded Infiniti G37S Coupe since it was starting to show its age. Obviously not the same car, but still in that family of entry level luxury performance cars.

I found the fit and finish, both interior and exterior, to be on par with the G for the most part. Overall, the only regret that I have is the stock stereo (401A) compared to the Infiniti's Bose "Studio on Wheels" system.

The GT has a very different personality ... one which grows on me more as time goes on.
