you guys act like buying a car is like getting married. it's just a car, buy it and if you want something else later then sell or trade and get the new one.
yeah a car is still cheaper than a wife. although I'd rather have the wife...she can do things the car can't.

It was known for a long time that the Camaro was switching platforms and was losing a good bit of weight. Why didn't you just wait for it to come out?
i needed a car last year, not in spring of 2016

Or why not buy a 4th gen fbody and put ebay headers on it ? You'll be neck and neck with a s550 for less than $3k
lol no

Nothing personal, but I don't get the just buy a new one mantality. I buy cars that I plan to keep for 10 or more years. this idea that you need the newest and best is just wrong on so many levels. I drive all my cars until they fall apart or get wrecked. Why? Because I don't care about having the newest car on the block, I hate payments, and a car only becomes an asset the day it's paid in full. Until then it's nothing but a liability. (Assettes make you money liability'scost you money)

I am going to say it, I think if this car were designed for higher performance it would likely sell less. To handle the performance it has requires some spendy rubber and non trivial skills that the average buyer simply lacks (heck I can spin the tires in the shift to third), and the tradeoffs needed to give better numbers would end up turning off the average buyer. What it could use is possibly a track pack that comes with a more aggressive tune for the higher end buyers. But honestly the GT350 is that car.

The S550 has a great balance of looks, driveability and performance. Sales do not come from winning comparisons on the track, they come from hitting the sweet spot of balance in the design that hits many buyers. Unless you are a racer, that is what you are looking for. Racers will always want uniqueness anyway and the Stang provides a great base to customize from.

The one thing the Camaro got right was the loss of weight, but my Stang will be my car for as long as it makes sense to keep it regardless. Not a disappointment to me, I look forward to driving it every chance I get! That will not change regardless of what else comes onto the market.

Well Camaro just got CoTY...what interesting is this paragraph.

Here’s one where the new Camaro might actually transcend the criteria. Is this the best production ponycar the world has ever seen? Without hesitation, yes. What was interesting to me is that we judge types weren’t talking about the Camaro in relation to the Mustang GT that we brought along as a benchmark. We were talking about future Camaro comparison tests against BMWs, Audis, and AMGs. I’d even throw Porsche into that mix. MacKenzie sums up our feelings: “A revelation. Absolutely world-class sports car performance and dynamics from an American icon. The new Camaro is one of the finest driver’s cars in the world. And that’s before you even talk about the price.” It’s also absolutely bitchin’, and it’s the 2016 Motor Trend Car of the Year.
Like it or not, this can't sit well with Ford.

Don't know if I agree with this statement. Camaro also hit these marks and in spades.

Looks are subjective.

I've had mine for 2 months now. I still look back at it every time I get out of the car. I still get many compliments, and I still get excited when I've got some space to pull off on the freeway. It makes me happy. I'm not disappointed at all.

All you lucky S550 owners should be happy with your Mustangs, it's a superb car.

I'm still more than happy with my 2005 GT. In my mind the S197 was a good Mustang. The S550 is not only a great Mustang, it's also a great modern car period! There are a number of compromises in my S197, but ones that I am prepared to accept. The S550 is, in my opinion, a MUCH better all round package, from fit and finish to performance and handling. There are very few compromises compared to its (much more varied now) competition.

And you know what excites me? The '18MY S550 will likely improve on an already impressive package.

These continue to be great times to be a Mustang enthusiast :)

Sept of 2017 is a long way away. I'm hoping MY18 is just a rumor and MY17 will make it rain.

Obviously time will tell and that was purely an opinion piece on my part. My point is that the S550 sales numbers speak to it resonating with more than just the traditional muscle car crowd, and purely the performance numbers will not lead directly to sales leads. There are not enough hard-core enthusiasts to drive the sales needle.

Will the new Camaro changes be enough to draw in the buyers from the fringes, those that would consider this type of a car if is livable enough daily? I would argue that is what is driving the S550 Stang to >10k average monthly sales, not those of us in forums... The compromises in the S550 that cause it to lose in track based comparisons are likely the things that make it more livable and justifiable to the "cool daily driver" crowd. Time will tell if the new Camaro resonates with buyers in the same way.

Again, just my opinion. If the Camaro sells 15k a month then I am wrong. Have never sat in a Gen6 Camaro, but 30sec in the Gen5 was enough to convince me that the compromises were not worth it, no matter how cool or fast it was. Just not a pleasant place to be for me.
