Yep your better offer going to court and pleading guilty with explanation. Take a fine and avoid points.

How does pleading guilty and paying the fine equal no points on your record?

I've gone before the judge on a speeding ticket before.

I explained yes I was speeding and the points were tossed out, but I did pay a fine. Judges can do that, at least in my state they can.

Jeanne, you have to fight each and every ticket-as each one will jack up your insurance rates, and may lead to license suspension if you get enough in a specific time period. Lots of the LEO's in S. Florida are jealous of people with nice cars. And yes, when it's time for them to do actual work-like when you call them to your house-they take hours to come. And they are unhappy about it.

A lady cop turned up at my house 5 hours after I called about a neighbor dispute. I asked what did she want and she said she's here to answer the call. I said 5 hours later?? She didn't answer. I told her she could leave my property, she said why? I told her 2 male officers came 20 mins. after I made the call. She goes "Are you sure they were cops". I said of course I'm sure, they had badges, guns, and a police car. Unbelievable!!!!

I always hire an attorney to fight them, I just got a conviction on the last one I fought in Palm Beach, first time ever getting a conviction and I will never use the Ticket Clinic again! I usually use a local ticket attorney and I'm kicking myself for not using him this time. It had been a few years since I got a speeding ticket and I got two in 3 months. One was in a rented Kia and he claimed I was doing 90 in it getting on the highway. I definitely wasn't doing 90, no way could the POS Kia get to 90 on the entrance ramp when it couldn't get to 90 on the damn highway, no point trying to argue, ticket was dismissed. Memorial weekend I was cruising up i95 with the flow of traffic, a Stingray was cruising next to me, not racing but there weren't many cars around and I didn't realize I was going 90. I looked ahead and spotted a Sheriff in the median with laser, looked at the speedo and saw I was going 92 [emoji15] so I took my foot of the throttle to slow down but he got me. He was actually very nice and saw that I slowed down so he wrote me up for doing 77 in a 65, still sucks though

I have better luck getting a written warning from State Police and County Sheriff then local PD and I agree that they are jealous of anyone driving a nice sports car.

I've been pulled over a handful of times over the last 20 years, but never had a moving violation. Have not been pulled over in the 7400 miles I've had my Mustang.

I drive like a jackass, but I'm careful about where I am and what my risks are.

Yeah. I do some silly things from time to time, but nothing extremely crazy. I've never been to the track either so I don't know what the "spirited driving on the road is boring" feeling is like that some guys get.

Through 11.5k miles, I've been stopped one time, and that was my fault. Two lane road late at night with my girl, cruising all alone at about 40 in a 35 I punch it to about 75 and back down, but of course there was Mr. Ocifer just chilling in the cut. He pulls me over and asks me "do you know how fast you were going?" Of course I KNEW how fast I was going, but let me try to play it off anyways, "Uhhhhh, I'm not sure, maybe 50? :D "...but he saw right through it.

As soon as I passed him, I just knew it was all bad. I told her, " I'm ****ED! There goes my license!" Etc. etc. So he comes back to the car, hands me my information and tells me "It's your lucky day. Just be careful out there." First time I ever wanted to give a cop a hug after pulling me over LOL. Couldn't believe it. It was like I was driving in fantasy land that night. Must've been a Ford guy.

But yeah, again I live in Cleveland and have only gotten stopped that one time and that was in a suburb. My last car was a G6 and I guess I had way worse luck in that car than this. I have a deleted resonator with Magnaflow mufflers and 5% tint on the sides (wayyyy illegal for Ohio) and have passed many a cop with the windows up, no issues. Let's be honest, in this city, they got a lot more to be worried about than innocent ol' little me. ;)

LOL. I can definitely relate to the "I'm ****ED!" moments. :p. It seems that cops never appear until I gun it :p.

What are these points y'all are talking about? That's not something we have in Louisiana.

He means in some areas certain infractions of the law attributed to moter vehichles is worth so many points if you accumulate to many they will revoke or suspend your liscense. Insurance companys can also look this up and increase your rates.

I don't know if it still is this way, but years ago if you got a ticket here in Texas the state could actually send you another one. Stupid as hell. I always tell people plead no contest and get it deferred or take defensive driving (can lower your insurance). That way you get no points or other fees.

I'm lucky, in western PA where I live cops don't care much about modded exhaust (unless of course it's completely unruly).

However once, a few months ago I was driving a back road that ran through a windy valley bottom and there were plenty residential streets on top of the hill tops. I was driving it HARD and no doubt could be heard up there 1/4 mile or so away. I'm sure it wasn't obnoxiously loud all the way up there, however anybody who heard it would have surely would have known I was driving the hell out of the road. When I got to the top an LEO abruptly pulled out and followed me for about 2 miles but I behaved up top and he ended up leaving me alone. Other than that, one has never even looked twice at me.

I don't think they do that "send you another ticket anymore" thing. And I've gotten a handful of tickets in my relatively short time of driving (10 years) and I've never had another ticket randomly tacked on. So that's why I do exactly what method you described lol
And all my tickets have been for speeding, usually 10 - 15 over the speed limit and always with small-town cops though, never city highway patrol. And in the greater part of Houston, anytime I see them have someone pulled over, its always a mom-mobile or the like and that really had to be hauling ass. Posted speed limit on most major hwys is 65 mph, but almost everyone is going 75 - 80 mph on the norm and the highway patrol seems to cares less most of the time
Back to the topic of the thread, they actually seem to care less about "illegal" mods too. Houston cops seem usually pretty laxed about the normal stuff.

No s***. I even looked it up on the DMV.org site, no point system (though of course they do maintain a record of violations that could affect litigation of a ticket).

In [most?] states, violations also have points allocated in addition to the fee, like 15 and under speeding is 3 points, and over 15 is 4, and these points are kept and aggregated and at some total, you can have your license suspended (like at 15 points).

They do expire after X amount of time, and you can go to traffic school and have them removed, though I believe most states have a limit to the number of times you can attend traffic school.

I get it, it's *supposed* to be a penalty for recurring offenders, but I've found it's more a matter of "luck" and driving area (i.e., highly patrolled areas). I know, don't speed, but you could get pulled over for 6-7 MPH over, 4 times over 12 months and lose your license for 6 months.
