Take tire off to install catch can

So, I have a Mishimoto catch can sitting on my work bench waiting to be installed. I've been reading all of the install threads and have to admit that I am a little nervous about being able to do it with these big bear paws that I call hands. While doing some research I found a new video that I hadn't seen before. In it the guy installing his catch can pulled the front drivers side wheel off in order to access the lower connection. I have not seen or read about this method before, so I am curious to say the least. I was in my car watching the video on my phone (stopped at a red light) so, I didn't get a great look at it. But, I am wondering if anyone here has used this method. If so, is it easier? I'll be doing an oil change at the same time, so I was planning on having the car on ramps and attempting to get at the hose from underneath. But, if this wheel off method is easier I'd consider ding it that way. I'd appreciate everyone's thoughts and/or experiences.

I cant speak for how removing the tire method works but going underneath was fairly painless. it was more so the upper line that took the most time.

It is definitely easier see when jacking the car up. I didn't go to the wheelwell but rather from underneath the car behind the splashpan.

I hate removing the plastic fender liners and only do it when absolutely necessary. My advice would be to bundle it when you're rotating your tires or something

i did it from up top, go in right above motor mount and under the cooling T line and right under the intake manifold, was able to put my hand over the connector.

Opposite for me, top came right off, the bottom was a royal PITA. I ended breaking the white clip on the stock pipe, but it's never going back on again so I didn't care.

see, i couldnt get the pipe at the right angle so i spent about 30-45min trying and feeding it different ways. my girl eventually took the line and snapped it in in under a minute. and that was the first time i told her i loved her hahaha

Like an engine hoist? What did you do with that?

I tried taking the tire off when I got stuck during my install. Removing the splashguard is absolutely not worth the time, I couldn't access the port at all. Just be sure to remove the airbox and get your hand in from the front of the intake runners, it will be easy from there.

I did it the hard way, but I took off the engine cover atleast, just put my hand up in there blindly and popped off the stock plastic tube, It's all quick disconnect so It's not that difficult, then the same with Installing the mishimoto CC.

I would've lifted the car but I only have a 5 ton jack and with the car being lowered that sh*t won't fit underneath the car.

I used the mishimoto official video, but It's hard to follow and doesn't give any real help other than finding what to disconnect and what not to disconnect but even then I couldn't really see anything. :shrug:

removing the tire and all that seems like more work than its worth it. I would try from up top first and jacking it up if all else fails..

My tech had issues with bottom connector as well so I told him to lift the car up, and that did the trick.

Hardest part of the whole process was getting(breaking) the bottom clip off. BTW, I used ramps and got under car.

Thanks all for your input. The car will be on the ramps for the oil change anyway, so I'll have access above or below. If that doesn't work out, removing the wheel Wil be the last resort.
