So got to flipping through my ford booklet for my gt with the performance pack and it says I have 13" Rotors with a SINGLE PISTON rear brake caliper! Like wtf was ford thinking putting a monster 6 piston up front with that useless ass thing in the back? Is there anyone making just a brake caliper upgrade without changing out rotors too?

The upcoming gt350 has brembos in the rear so maybe in the coming months there will be a rear brake upgrade but it would most likely be with rotors as well.

You don't really need much rear brake as fronts do most of the work by far. Your car stops on a dime I'm sure.

braking performance =/= piston size. That rotor back there is sufficient and the single piston out back is huge. The only benefit to have 2 or 4 pistons in the rear with the same rotor size would be heat distribution. These cars have phenomenal brakes from the factory and even though its an "eye-sore", it is more than functional.

85% of your stopping power comes from the front brakes so there is no reason for anything more than it has. If you were to put bigger brakes with more stopping power you would need to use a proportioning valve that held them off more to keep from locking up the brakes.

For the most part the 4 and 6 piston brakes they put on street cars are as must for image and marketing as they are to improve the stopping power.

Have you raced your car yet and gotten any fade? I am 100% sure that you haven't.

These brakes are more than adequate for 99% of the owners as you also, have fluid and pad change options.

I've auto x'd my car a couple times and no I haven't had any fading and it does stop really well when I mash them, but to me ford could have at least went with 4 piston brakes in the rear. Ik wilwood makes a rear brake upgrade but wouldnt do this any time soon of course, just more or less asking what other people's opinions were

I think the rear brakes look out of place with the large Brembos up front. It would look much more substantial if it had a nice rear caliper and disc out back. Ford had to save somewhere to meet the price point vs performance. It still continues to bother me when I see the cheesy looking rear caliper.

That black Ferrari image is sweet. Gotta save that one as screen background.

The braking power must be applied directly proportional to the tire traction. When the weight balance shifts forward on hard braking, the rear tires unload and more brake power will lock the rear and throw the car into an instant spin. You see this in the car races occasionally.

OP, yes, study some basic vehicle dynamics before criticizing too harshly. It is easy for us to armchair quarterback this stuff, but there is real safety involved here, so we must be careful not to wander too far off the factory script, or at least leave it to other professionals to do the testing for us!

I have no compelling reason to upgrade my GT Premium brakes to Brembo, because upgrading to wider summer tires will make for shorter stopping distance anyway.

I agree - Brembo brakes are for image & marketing (unless you run the car all day at the track to combat fade).

Does you car stop quick and in a straight line? Yes?. Then your rear brakes are not useless.

it has an engine!
Even the non pp brakes up front are more then enough for most people. Especially for drag racers. Ill be switching to aerospace front and rears eventually.
