Have not heard any LT1 issues. Have there been any?
like mustang guy said its really dependent on mileage. I doubt most people would see any serious issues until about 50k or higher. It's defiantly a problem on any DI injection car regardless of make or model. I do remember hearing some rumblings of issues with the direct injection though. Walnut blasting works wonders and is a great option but pretty expensive. I'm looking to start doing them myself and its pretty tedious from what i understand.

Also is the FRS actually dual injection? I thought it was just DI.

Not from carbon no but C7 owners are blowing LT1s left and right (Car & Driver famously blew theirs up after 6,000 miles long-term testing it last year).

well even more of a reason to not get the camaro lol. Thats crazy! 25k repair bill? wow. I'm sure the dealership made out like a bandit on that one with labor charges paid in full by GM. Was this failure proven to be DI related?

After the ignition debacle I wouldnt touch a GM car personally, even if the Camaro looked better and was 3000 pounds and 500hp. Let alone LT1s blowing up, and not an isolated incident.

LOL, surprised no one brings this up. Same with the z/28. Take it to the track and blow up.

Anyone have any insight on my question about how much aluminum or other lightweight materials is used in the Camaro?

I thought this was well known. I guess not. Gm is just having all sorts of issues with it right now. Cooling issues and heat soaking from blowers, the tune pulling timing is the most wide spread. The engine blowing isn't as large but still not looking good for the c7 right now.

Youve clearly never paid for a valve cleaning. It ranges from 700-1200 every 20k. in 20k an rs4 reported a loss of 40whp from build up. Its flawwed and makes the fuel system upgrades drastically more expensive. Everyone that buys di until its perfected is a guinea pig.
We just went through this with 2008 CTS that we have at work. The car developed a pronounced misfire under load; the dealer dicked around with it at first with a GM cleaning service procedure, but didn't actually fix it at first. It wound up being a much more invasive disassembly to correct the issue. The car only has about 50K miles on it.

you can get walnut blasting a lot cheaper than 700-1200. the local houston guy does it for 300 a car. with that said di of course has flaws and benefits...you guys are going kind of far arguing about it so much.

$300 is a steal of a price. Even local guys that do side work want $500-600 around these parts. I guess it depends on the car but something like a B7 RS4, it actually takes an entire day to do it. Its really tedious work. I hate DI with a passion and I just get annoyed when its added for no reason. Like I said the only really benefit I see is a few extra MPGs. At the end of the day people aren't buying mustang GTs based on its gas mileage ratings.

BMW has started doing OEM water injection for extra cooling and valve cleaning. I'm assuming more companies will follow suit. That or the PI/DI combination will start to get more popular.

I give up on the lightweight question I guess. Lol

All you have to do is look at the beauty of a car that is the S500 to see it is the clear winner:ford:
