Stereo base 4.3" head unit upgrade: Ideas? Plans?***

I give you guys credit for working on this. Even if you tackle the wiring which is going to be difficult at best there is the programming side of things which will be a totally different type of hurdle. I doubt any of you have the proper programming tools to get as in depth with the APIM as would be needed to get things working across the board. Just so you know the Mustang uses a different MFT APIM than most of Ford vehicles. Its built in China and the others are built in Mexico.

I would really suggest just buying a mustang that already has the MFT system if your serious about wanting it.

I honestly couldnt care less about mft. I needed a project. As far as skills, i feel im more than qualified. Can bus signals are very similar to server commands. I happen to be a pretty good programmer. Where its made doesnt matter near as much as the fact that the underlying hardware is the same. Porting a mustang ipdate to work on a escape actually sounds fun to me.

Where would the aftermarket be if there were guys willing to put in more work on mods tgan they are worth? Theres always gotta be a first person to do something.

Im assuming you installed the premium MFT dash bezel in the base vehicle.... So do all the manual controls still work properly, meaning lower A/C controls, hazard switch, pts, and steering modes?

For the most part yes. The toggles at the bottom work flawlessly. The ac controls were meant to work in tandem with the screen so they work but they are cumbersome.

Ok so been going through whatever I can find on these screens.. The only thing I am not understanding is where this phantom 2nd usb port is coming from... All 2015 mustang MFT screens have only one usb port on the APIM module. Where the HELL is the second usb port connecting to? It has to be incoperated in the main sync module harness.

The funny thing is though that ford parts diagrams show 2 sync usb cables plugging into the back of the module... :headbonk:

The reason I am going through this is because my escape screen has the same issue. Only 1 usb port on the module yet the escapes come with 2 as standard.

On another note.. Upon further inspection I think it might be possible to get navigation without an ACM swap. The SD card reader plugs directly into the sync module via one of the usb ports. The other part is the GPS antenna which with any luck will be able to be incorporated into the main sync harness. All that would be needed after that is navigation activated in the programming of the APIM.

As far as projects go I am all for playing...I have done that many times myself. I have over $2500 in equipment in order to program APIMs.

As far as the comment about updates....end user upgrades are the same regardless of vehicle make/model or year.

I figured this as well. Whether or not the wiring for the antenna has the correct pinout for the MFT APIM is the issue. If all this is correct then a reflash with nav activated and the sd card reader with the sd card for maps should be all that is needed.

The GPSM is wired into the network, not directly connected to the APIM.

If you guys can pay me $11 (thats my cost) I can access all the wiring info for the 15 mustang and email it to you. Just have to tell me what your looking for. I have access to all of it for my car and I will do some comparing of the MFT APIM and SYNC APIM to look at differences.

It appears the MS-CAN is also missing from the SYNC APIM and would have to be added to the MFT APIM. The missing MS-CAN is why it thinks it is moving all the time and locking out the in motion features, the GPSM is on the MS-CAN network.

Yes the FCDIM is the screen. For the Taurus line they are not there. I would assume the same would be true of the Mustang. May have to just splice into the network to get them.

That's odd though because the 4.3" screen locks out controls based on motion as well? If it is not there then the 4.3" screen is using another method to determine vehicle motion.

To splice into the MS_CAN the easiest source would be the OBD port? The radio has to have some type of lead as well which would obviously be closer.
