In the next couple of days I'm gonna meet a salesman at a highly nondescript dealership, who said I can order a GT350 with him. I think there's a high likelihood that it doesn't work out, including the possibility that he doesn't even know you had to join the program to get an allocation, but I'll check it out anyway.

I've read bits and pieces about people placing orders and dealer allocations etc. but I'm not clear on that process overall, so I was looking for a few specific facts that I can reference when I speak with him, to make sure we're not both wasting our times.

Could anyone provide a one paragraph cliffs notes that summarizes the story of you have to join the program, who gets the allocations, who the dealership needs to talk to, DORA etc.?

I'll take a shot at answering some of your questions as best I know them.

- The dealership needed to pay an allocation fee to be eligible. Total allocations are based on previous mustang sales, markets, etc. The regional rep lets the dealerships know how many allocations for each MY they are getting.

If they have an allocation and you are in their to order, you should see if they placed the order already or still have the allocation available to configure the way you want.

If you can order, they should show you the options sheet and walk through the order with you. At that time, they will most likely ask for a deposit and you should get an order detail sheet showing the price.

Then the DORA gets placed, once accepted by Ford, your order is in the "system." But does not indicate when it will be built. That will come later when the VIN is assigned.

VOC or more?

My recent experience:

Last Saturday I got an allocation for a 2016 GT350 900A + 60T. They had one remaining allocation, told me the ADM and I accepted.

They gave me a copy of the VOC, Vehicle Order Confirmation, on which we placed the total MSRP + ADM price and I signed that. They gave me a receipt for the deposit with the "W" order number from the VOC referenced.

No DORA, Dealer Order Receipt Acknowledgment yet.

Should I pester them for a DORA so I know this is all legit?

A bit of a side issue, when has anybody heard of for expected deliveries? I realize it will be a LONG way off.

I would ask for the DORA, that would show your name as well as your order being accepted. There is no reason they couldn't provide it to you.

I have everything signed off except I didn't get my DORA either and I put my deposit down June 8th. But my allocation is supposed to be for Jan 1, 2016. So I'm GUESSING it won't go through until then. I'm assuming the Jan 1 date will be when the regional manager can push the order through...?

The VOC they sent me today had my name on it, same order number. I would assume by this weekend there should be no excuse for not being able to give me a DORA?

On delivery time, any ideas? [Edit - I see your Jan 1 order submission comment, I'm hoping I get it by Spring...]

You guys covered it pretty well. The rule of thumb it seems is that the participating dealers receive 3 GT350 allocations to 1 R allocation or just receive one or two allocations with the remaining R's allocated through a lottery. Like the post stated allocated based on sales volume. The most allocations I have heard of was 9 but that was never verified either. Anything greater than 4 total allocations it seems are around big cities in the southern and coastal states where more Mustangs are sold but are the general exception. Good luck!

bp-

You should have a confirmed DORA within 24 hrs of them placing the order in the system. I would ask the dealership.

As for builds, kind of up in the air....but what I have heard is that once you are notfied of a VIN, its usually about 2 weeks until its built. Then the shipping varies based on QC holds, transportation delays

I hope he told you the price before you walk in there and he talks to his manager.

All depends on which dealership you are talking to?

My understanding has always been that the "Vehicle Order Confirmation" is a request from a dealer to order a particular vehicle for a named customer along with all options and pricing listed on the VOC.

I had at least 3 VOC's entered and cancelled on me when the 2012 Boss 302 LS cars first came out. The dealers I worked with all thought that they had allocations for an LS when they did not and I had deposits coming back from all parts of the country. Very frustrating back in 2011.

According to a couple of Ford dealers that I have worked with closely in the past few years The "Dealer Order Receipt Acknowledgement" is a totally separate document from the VOC and unless a DORA is issued by Ford the VOC really does not have much merit?

Typically the DORA is generated less than 24 hours after the order is submitted if I'm not mistaken. I left the dealership with a VOC. They emailed me the DORA the following day and it was dated the same day I placed my order. This was all done 6/10 and my car is still showing a partial VIN with a "material hold" status. I'm dealing with a small dealership and I'm getting their only allocation.
