First time poster, long time reader.

I've been working with a dealership for the last few months on trying to secure a 2016 GT350R. The problem I am running into is the dealership owner isn't sure if he wants it or not. I've got the manager trying to convince him of letting me have it (we buy commercial vehicles from them). The only concern I have is that they say they are getting one but it isn't allocated yet for order. So a couple of questions for those "in the know".

Is that possible at this point to not have the allocation?
If it isn't allocated, does the dealership really know if they are getting one?

Just want to make sure I'm not being strung along when I should be looking elsewhere for a GT350R. Speaking of which, is there a way to see what dealers have allocation and un-placed orders? I'm in the hunt if this dealership falls through.

Thanks for the insight.

SO, if the dealer does get a late allocation, you can't place an order? What happens then, they just get a random build?

Any suggestions on finding a dealership with an unsold GT350R? I get the feeling I've been screwed. :headbonk:

Thanks.

No allocation=no order. Sounds like they are stringing you along in hopes of obtaining a late allocation which may never come. No random builds...just means they will not see another 2016. Many on this forum have reported calling vast numbers of dealers until they found one.

There's no way to see which dealers still have allocations that aren't ordered yet. Heck, there's no way to see which dealers even have allocations.

The only way to find an R is through a friend (someone in the KNOW) or get on the phone and start dialing and smiling....

The dealers that move more Mustangs will know if they are getting an "R". The smaller dealers can verify if they were allotted via lottery by simply trying to complete the order. If it allows them to actually place the order... Then boom. Otherwise, the screen will simply not allow a completion based on the dealership ID.

If you can speak to a GM and ask... Did your dealership buy into the GT350 allocation or do you know if you are getting a GT350? Should get either they have one allocation to order or that they already have one on order. I've found a lot of the smaller dealership owners had simply ordered the car to actually buy it for themselves and yet are willing to sell their order possibly knowing they have another coming they can get, but then they claim all dealers are asking a minimum of 5k markup on the GT350 and 10k or way more on the "R".
Others have told me they are accepting bids.

Then there are the guys who've got the smaller businesses that are more grass roots in their thinking and will sell the car for a fair price to make a customer.

Did they have several regular GT350s allocated to them? During my search I came across several dealerships that mistakenly thought they could order a GT350R when they were only allocated a GT350.

Dealers are allocated 1 R for every 3 gt350's. My dealership was allocated 5 gt350's so we have 1 & 3/4 of an R allocated to us. We hope Ford will give us the 2nd R but we will not know until late in the year.

That would imply either a 25% or 33% mix of R's (depending on if you mean you get three non-R's then one R...out of 4...or you get the gt350's, one of which is an R) which I don't think is right...I think it's going to be more like 10%.

Not really, because most dealers are only getting one or two GT350s, so they won't get an R. I talked to a couple larger dealerships near me and they are each only getting one GT350.

Great point..I think we would all love to know how that is determined.

Another wrinkle in that theory. My dealer got ONE allocation for 2016 and I ordered a R. Granted we ordered it very early in the process. So how were they able to do that?

Certainly agree with your suggestion about the percentage of 2016 "R" models being a max of 10% of the total build for 2016 and possibly even less than 10%?

Of course if we look at the percentage of "R" models for the 2015 build year then we are looking at 27% of the total build but as we all know the 2015 build year was an anomaly.
