Spare Tire for Performance Pack Mustang

I know the standard spare tire kit that ford sells will not work because of the brembo break package.

What suggestions do you guys have for a spare?

Some folks use the standard spare anyway. If they have a flat on the front, they put the spare on the rear and put the rear on the front.

Is the tyre 'well' in the trunk deep enough for a normal size wheel (i.e. a 9 inch wheel)? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but we haven't had our cars in the UK yet.

Neither tire will fit in the wheel well hole in the trunk, only the doughnut.

Thanks, I thought as much. Looks like I'll be spending out on the Ford kit. For the record, this is of course, still cheaper than a tow truck.

I spent a bunch of time trying to come up with a good solution for a spare with PP option. Here is what I found in my research.
There are a number of reasons why Ford did want to supply a spare. One is the Brembo brake package. The spare just won’t fit. The next is the fact that the rear end in the PP wants both rear tires to be the same diameter. If they are not the same sizes it will cause ware on the differential in as little as 5 miles. Then there is the tire well in the trunk it’s just too small for a full size tire or even a donut tire of the right diameter. So like others I thought ok if I have a flat on the front I’ll move the spare to the rear and the rear to the front. I tried this only to find the rear wheel won’t fit the front, the tire hits the strut tower. So I bought a spacer ( 5/16 I think) and solved that problem. I bought the Ford spare tire kit for the mustang knowing the tire would not be tall enough. My thought was I’d be able to find a replacement tire of the correct diameter. I was wrong again the best I found was a Maxxis tire that was .5” to small (T165/70D18 I think). I decided if I needed to put the spare on I’d drop the air pressure the good stock rear tire like 10LBS to make it a bit smaller. So after all of this I bought a couple of tire plug kits. If I get a nail in a tire I’ll try to do a temp fix first and get to a palace for a perm repair. If not I hope I have enough options that will get me home. I hope this helps someone.

I have roadside with insurance and I believe Ford also provides 5 years (or 60K miles) road side assistance with the purchase? Obviously not ideal, but as rare as a blowout has been for me I'd imagine between my insurance and Ford I can have someone out quick enough.

My Heacock insurance comes with roadside assistance, I ford roadside asst, and my good Sam club roadside assistance. I think I'm covered for the spare. Also, that temp donut is limited to 50mph and I would only use it to get to a gas station.

I have AAA and the Ford insurance too. But from personal experience I've been 4 miles from home on my Harley and waited 3 hours for a flatbed to take me home. I can just see me on the way to Yellowstone and getting a flat and having to wait there. To each his own.
